AustraliaWe had an amazing stay at Tashiro Annex! The traditional Japanese room, baths, and food were exceptional and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff were very helpful - even though they don't speak English we were able to communicate with sign language and google translate and they were always willing to accommodate us. We are both vegetarians and this wasn't a problem as the chef prepared special vegetarian food for us every day. They also prepared a Bento breakfast box at 4am when we left early to go hiking! You do notice that the facilities are slightly older, but everything is clean and well maintained so that isn't a problem either. I highly recommend a stay here to anybody visiting Yakushima and looking for a traditional Japanese experience!

Most of them didn't speak much English, but we still managed to communicate. I stayed for 5 nights, the last two nights I moved to another room with tatami but no hot spring. The tatami room without hot spring was a lot more noisier. But the room with the hot spring was wonderful.
