How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

🌟 5/5 Review Staying in this cave accommodation was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! The unique setting, combined with the stunning view, created a magical atmosphere from the moment we arrived. The room was beautifully maintained, blending the charm of the historic cave with modern comforts. The staff were exceptional — warm, attentive, and always ready to help with a genuine smile. Everything exceeded our expectations, and we left with unforgettable memories. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Matera!

We had the most beautiful Cave Suite one can imagine. Good bed, good bathroom, everything very clean. The Lady at the Reception was very nice and helpful and gave good information for visiting Matera. Breakfast on the terrace was great. Matera is special, magical. It was a unique experience.

The mattress was soft and uncomfortable.
The room is a typical and charming Sassi. It is very clean and the bathroom new; the shower was also great. All the staff are very polite and available for any question! The location is perfect, you can walk anywhere and see everything from there. Even so, the room was very quiet — we couldn’t hear any noise from outside. They also helped us with parking, which was incredibly convenient! The breakfast was amazing.

Fantastic experience! The cave-like appartment is stunning, very well designed. The location is so good that you actually get the best views of Matera right at your doorsteps. The parking option with transfer service, which was recommended by the hotel, was very convenient too.

The noise around property was loud. From people’s chatter to vehicles and trucks driving through. This made it hard to sleep throughout the night
it was clean and had the facilities we required. Host was very helpful. Beds very comfortable.

Can’t think of anything
The room wasn’t big (it was absolutely as advertised, though) but well designed for maximum comfort and practicality. The location is excellent! And the staff are very professional, they provide helpful information and communicate very well. It is thanks to them that we maximized our time in Matera. Breakfast was also “just right”. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this to anyone.

The only negative was that we were not aware of the traffic restrictions in the ZTL which were in fact communicated to us but only a couple of hours prior to our arrival at which time we were driving to Matera and therefore didn’t see the warnings until we had already entered the ZTL and incurred a fine for doing so. Maybe if the communication could be sent the night before arrival it would have been more helpful. Be aware the minimum fine for entering the ZTL without authorisation is €80. and can rise to over €300. under some circumstances.
Pretty much everything about the property- its location, the staff, the breakfast and the beautiful room was absolutely delightful and made for a wonderful base from which to explore Matera.

The location in the old town was just stunning! 10/10 location. Just below one of the many old rock churches. Beautiful accomodation. Lovely bathroom facilities. The layout was unique and fun. The staff were lovely, super friendly, great English, incredibly accomodating and professional. The breakfast and coffee were gorgeous. Would definitely come back!

The location and views were outstanding! We were given a map of all the must see picturesque views and things to do after check in. The room was beautifully decorated and the hosts were amazing. We had a very early check out the next day before breakfast started, and they were kind enough to bring some treats the night before to our room - for our long journey ahead. I would definitely visit again.

Everything was great, if one thing could be changed , it would possibly be the serving of the breakfast buffet- felt a bit greedy if you asked for more than one selection- we all would have preferred to help ourselves, rather than lining up asking for what we’d like, but otherwise we thoroughly loved our stay here.
Fabulous decor and art in a converted cave/ really authentic. Fantastic location in The Sassi area of Matera!

Everything. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The room was absolutely fabulous and beautiful. The sauna was exquisite! The hotel arranged for a park and ride service at a time that suited us, it was all very easy and stress-free. The breakfast was delicious - and even included a vegan croissant!

We loved , loved , loved everything about the property ,breathtaking views and immaculate, high power shower, incredibly comfortable beds after very long days out exploring,it was absolute central location , our host Graziana was wonderful , friendly, informative, and as good as having a personal PA with you , helped us with restaurant reservations and suggestions. Buffet breakfast was delicious , we would all recommend and would definitely choose if we ever have the opportunity to visit Matera again .
