How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe location of the villa is great (if you can find it - it is quite a challenge). It was nice to have a whole villa to ourselves as we were a group of 8. The kitchen is well equiped with an oven and enough cutlery and crockery for our 2 day stay. The house is well maintained and I can see that it is well looked after.
For the price of the villa, I did expect a few things to be better facilities and/or service. Check in is 17h00 and check out is 10h00. That is a bit portion of the day that you cannot be at the location. Although we could check out at 10h00, the cleaning staff got there at 9h45. The pillows were soft and you had to fold them double to fee something under your head. The aircon in 2 of the rooms did not work. We were asked to dispose of the rubbish in the house, but were not told where to take it. There are no bins around for put the trash into. I had to walk around the city, with bags, trying to find a bin. I really do feel that the cleaning staff could have done that. The administration to hire the villa was really over the top. I specifically asked for the EUR 300 deposit link to be sent to me prior to my arrival because I would not have access to my e-mail and limited data. Despite this, I had to keep following up and checking and asking for the payment link (you cannot access the door code without proof that it has been paid). It was unnecessary work to have to do while on holiday and with only a cellphone (no laptop). I received messages from mutiple people and I was trying to figure out what I need and from who. The same goes for the directions to the villa. I advised that I only have a phone on me - and it was really difficult to navigate to the villa. Overall, I don't know whether the effort was worth it. I would rather stay in a guest house or hotel than have to hastle with the admin again. The city is very busy when the cruise ships arrive, its hot and there is no parking. Its hard to drive in Old Town. All supermarkets and shops are closed on public holidays. Restaurants stay open.

As for the payment and directions, we have designed all instructions and payment links to work seamlessly on any device, including smartphones, and they should have been easy to access. The check in time is 5pm which is not the norm and caused a great deal of issue and expense for us. You have to pay to store your bags and then wait 6-8 hours to get into the villa. At the price we paid we felt this was not good. I am a travel writer and travel basically half the year and stay in mostly vacation rentals like this one. I find the average time for check in in Europe rentals to be 2-4pm with the norm at 2-3pm. I was in Southern Italy for 2 weeks and each time my rentals contacted me to ask if we wanted to check in early (wonderful service). When I request a possible early check in for the villa I was either ignored or told when maintenance is done (which was at 5pm) This is a sahme to have to post this as it was a very nice villa and we loved it except for this.

Verified reviewThe location was perfect for exploring the old town. The apartment was tastefully decorated with all the facilities you may require, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The outside area was in keeping with the surroundings and seating was great for breakfast outside.
Quite a lot of steps for one of our party who had her leg in plaster and needed a wheelchair, especially as there isn’t a toilet on the same floor as the kitchen/lounge. However when we booked this wasn’t a factor we needed to consider and she managed to cope with crutches.

Verified reviewThe location was outstanding - in the middle of the old city…….with only 7 steps to climb. The courtyard was exceptional even though it was too hot to enjoy during a crazy July heat wave. The ancient ruins behind the property were quite interesting to our teenage kids. Amazing restaurants were only steps away from the property.
There was no washer/dryer.

Verified reviewThis villa is amazing! Very clean, modern, spacious and has all the facilities you will need. 5 really good sized bedrooms, all with ensuites. Fully equipped kitchen and spacious dining, living and outside area. The hosts are so friendly and helpful, they arranged our airport transfers and were always available to answer any questions we had. The location of the villa is just perfect, situated in the heart of Dubrovnik. I highly recommend this villa! We had such an amazing time in Dubrovnik, thank you!
