How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Some noise from adjoining rooms.
No street noise. Very close to the center. Staff were very helpful and provided extra shower gel etc when asked.

No real issues - it is budget so don't be overly expectant. Get out into this wonderful city and enjoy it.
This was much better than I'd expected. Excellent private access via external and interior secured doors. Stairs to the apartments are fairly steep but not a problem (maybe not overly easy if you have walking or climbing difficulties). Tea/coffee making facilities in a small common room. Calle Higuan is a quiet street less than 10 minutes from the heart of things. Quiet location suited me fine.

Hostal pictures i get idea that it will be ok to leave motorcycle in front. Ok, i left mc there for a night, but it was place to get ticket, i did not 🙂
Small cosy and clean room. Owner call me and sent all info what i need to self check in. They were out for evening.

Our room didn't have an outside window, but a window to an inside halfway, which itself has a window to an inner patio. Feels a bit strange and makes it hard to control temperature and ventilation. Very small fridge is a bit noisy.
Spotless and well taken care of. Easy walk from train and bus stations.

Very easy to hear voices and other noises from the next room.
The location was excellent. The coffee machine, hot water kettle and coffee cups in the common area were very nice touches. The host was friendly and informative.

it was a bit cold in the room, but due to exceptional bad weather, but with the aircon it became ok

It is a little dated, though that is reflected in the price. And the approach is a bit isolated as above, but it seems safe.
Very good value and very nice and helpful staff. The location is good (and some of the best hotels are nearby) BUT the street itself is a bit quiet and isolated.

Everything was fab.
I thought this place got it right. It was nicely decorated with a feminine touch without being too fussy. My room was scruplously clean, as was the bathroom and the communal areas. The wifi worked well.. The a/c worked perfectly. My bed was comfy. The shower was good. And most importantly of all it was lovely and peaceful! The hostel is in a quiet and clean residential street just a short walk away from the bustling square and further easy walking to the Roman artefacts. I found Merida lovely, on the, whole. Very clean and proper with a relaxed vibe to the place and nice people.

Only one small package of shampoo and no hair dryer in the room. Maybe you can get one at the reception but there is only someone working until 2pm.
Room was very clean and comfortable. Close to the city center.

We liked everything aside from the shower and the towels. The towels are quite rough and old and the shower has so little pressure.
