Just walk! Do it- there's so much to discover on foot. Absolutely loved the Skydeck experience, the River Architecture tour, walking along the lake Michigan and visiting one of the beaches and taking a dip in that lovely water. The House of Blues must be tried for dinner, drinks and live music, and Navy Pier of course. A surprise was visiting the cultural centre - amazing beautiful building and they happened to have a live free jazz concert along with the many different exhibitions on the diverse cultures of Chicago. Enjoy the Windy City!

Five nights with perfect weather allowed me and my wife to see everything that Chicago offers, It is a clean and safe city that has great architecture, parks , lake-shore and culture (the Art Institute of Chicago is super for those who appreciate art museums), Boat rides 1-2 hours on the Chicago river are entertaining and educational. The Big Bus tours are available (Hop-on Hop off), There are parks for all ages. Great shopping at Nieman Marcus and Bloomingdales, Navy Pier is for families with young children.

So much to see there beyond a deep dish pizza, and this obsession with food masks some real magic. It is so hard to get around that I'd consider getting digs out of town a bit and hire a car, but the public transport is OK and the trains a bit of fun. It is very expensive everywhere, and almost impossible to figure out the other fun bits like the ferries, park activity, what is closed off for the holidays and what is not, getting salad and vegetables and don't start me about the coffee. It is safe enough and the beggars not that intrusive and most of them sophisticated. Overall there is a lot to see and if you do your homework the most fun in a living museum that I have had for quite some time. The great lake is ignored, despite its formidable qualifications. There is effectively no way to get around on it and you need to drive to the zoo and botanical gardens and places that ferries could reach better and with more fun. I could advise Chicago on how to be a five star vacation journey and I do love it but would do things a bit differently.

Hop on hop off bus a little expensive but allowed us to get round the city attractions as we only had one full day in the city. Having said that, we did walk around and it was easy to get from one to another. We started off at the Hancock Tower for the 360 degree view of the city going early was good before it got busy. That gave us a view of the layout and where to head. Millenium Park was great loved the fountains and saw the 'bean'. We walked from there to the Lakeshore and along to Navy Pier (easy walking 10-15 minutes). The pier had lots to see and do. Loved the rainbow icecream cones they were delicious.

Chicago is definitely a walking city.

Chicago is definitely a walking city. We had to walk up many stairs with our luggage as the escalator going to the Main Street from subway were never in the direction of the exit. Very surprised there are no public restrooms around the city’s/in stores. I’m used to being able to walk into a store/restaurant and use the restroom freely.
