First, Abby and the staff were beyond courteous. In the post-Covid days, its rare to see the level of customer service this beautifully kept inn offers. My favorite part was the delicious breakfast served every morning. The wrap around porch is such a delightful place to sit, finish your tea, and read. We slept soundly with no outside noises interrupting our slumber. We will definitely be returning!

June 12 2025 A sunny and cool afternoon . I arrived half past 12 at The Richard. The scrumptious aroma of cookies filled the reception area , instantly transporting me home on weekends ! Then came out from the kitchen Ms. Kate, who extended a warm and enthusiastic reception. She said- " Your room is ready". She allowed me to check in early ! To my delight ! Helped me with my luggage upstairs. The room smelled clean and spotless, decor was contemporary cosmopolitan . Bedroom / bathroom has all the modern amenities ( although the building was vintage). I was tempted to take a nap, but then I was famished. I asked Kate for reco, and oh boy ! 19 Raw Oyster Bar was a pleasant surprise! It was just a block away from The Richard. Impeccable service and great food ! Going back now to the Richard- there's an outdoor courtyard with fire pit and comfy lounge sofa around, a nice touch to after dinner long conversation or simply seat there for peace and quiet. And a front porch with rocking chairs to people watch or read or relax. The Richard being in the mainstreet, restaurants , shops and everything in between are just a stroll away. Talking about shopping- almost all the shops have curated items that will make you regret shopping elsewhere. Which brings me to Ms. Ellen, at The Richard , who helped me solve my problem of needing 1 luggage to stash away my shopping haul! Surprisingly, there's not one shop selling luggage in Martha's Vineyard ! But Ms. Ellen was so kind enough to offer her own luggage ! She's a darling ! We wanted to do a photo shoot ( best friends celebrating 4 decades of friendship) she found us one professional photographer within the day ! Felt like there is nothing Ms. Ellen can't solve ! Always in her calm and composed demeanor. I've been travelling for the past 40 years. The Richard is on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever ! Kudos to Ms. Ellen and her team- Ms. Kate and Ms.

Everything. Well appointed. Lovely property in an area of attractive small stores for shopping, excellent restaurants, access to Chappaquiddick Island and the water and beaches. Manager Helen even served hot chocolate-chip cookies mid-afternoon. Breakfast was simple but interesting with fruit smoothies, hard-boiled eggs, muffins, breads, croissants, granola and yoghurt. Always excellent coffee. Enjoyed the outdoor firepit with comfortable seating. We had a reserved parking spot (although it was an extra charge)

FAQs about hotels on Martha's Vineyard

A Summer Retreat Off Cape Cod

The charming island of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, also known as The Vineyard, is a famous summer colony situated south of Cape Cod on the Atlantic Ocean. Popular with keeping low-profile celebrities, the island is a perfect destination for beach relaxation, fishing trips and hiking the cliffs.

Accessible only by planes and boats, Martha’s Vineyard is a peaceful oasis, where one can truly rest in a no-fuss atmosphere and fantastic summer weather. You can start your Vineyard experience in Oak Bluffs, town in the north-east part of the island, known for its Victorian-style cottages and a beautiful harbour.

West from Oak Bluffs, there is Vineyard Haven, the main entry port of the island and during summer, one of its most populous tourist destinations. There you can rent a 4x4 and drive to see the Vineyard’s lighthouses, including the Gay Head Lighthouse in Aquinnah located next to the cliffs going by the same name.

Other island activities include horseback riding, cycling, golfing and, of course, sailing. You can practice the latter in Martha’s Vineyard’s town of Edgartown, an old whaling port and the location for the filming of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws.

Arriving at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport you’re just a short drive from all the attractions. Booking.com offers a wide choice of properties on the island: from hotels on the beach to accommodation with a pool.

My 17 years old daughter and I had a terrific stay at this hotel: it is sweet and beautiful with a big porch with rocking chairs, and conveniently located close the ocean. The staff is wonderful and makes everyone feeling welcome. They provide the guests with a lot of extras like fresh cookies and hot cider, beach towels and beach chairs and a great and healthy breakfast. All this made our stay very, very special. We hope to come back and definetely recommend it to people who hope to find peace and happiness during their vacation.

This b&b is outstandingly beautiful! Decorated with much taste and very convenient. Charles was a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome. We got a bottle of Champagne at the beginning and a gorgeous breakfast each day with things like self baked banana cake or a pie. We could not sit outside in the garden because we came in December but it was also beautiful to sit inside while it was raining. We definitely recommand this special place all year round!

This might be the loveliest place I have ever stayed. Our room was heavenly, bed huge and comfortable, bathroom luxurious and the Martha's Vineyard light! The house was built for a whaling Captain who had wonderful taste. Old-fashioned charm with no kitsch at all. Perfect. Can't wait to go back.

There are a lot of things to see and do on the Island. We were there for a wedding and stayed 3 days, but we could have stayed a few more in order to take in the Edgartown side of the Island. The people are very friendly and quite helpful! It's a beautiful everywhere! The Gingerbread Houses were spectacular! The food was superb. I bought the most delicious potpie I've ever had at a nearby farm store that I wish I could remember the name of. I also had the most moist and crunchy cod fish and chips ever. This was my very first trip to the island (that's why I can't remember the names, but I stayed at The Frankin Hotel Martha Vineyard, which everything was within walking distance from everything and I'll be returning throughout the new year and I plan on staying in Edgartown!!! A very comfortable older home off the main road. Woodsy feeling which was nice and a very private yard. Not close to beaches and a bit of a drive to the closest town. There are stores nearby so that is not a problem. Pictures of the outside of the house do not do it justice! We loved the screened porch.
