My daughter flew to Pittsburgh and our trip began with a two day stop in Lancaster before heading to Hagerstown. She was so delighted at how beautiful and well organized the visitors center was and how well staff it was with such knowledgeable individuals who are incredibly invested in their jobs as they share fascinating yet horrific stories of the loss of so many lives as mostly men fought to make the changes needed for this country to become the start of the nation that we know today. Actually seeing graves and fields so vividly described as they were transformed into mass murder scenes. We all left the area sad, yet so thankful to all of the men who fought and died for all of us. This location was convenient, but the property was disappointing in terms of poor quality linens and furniture. The entry is dark with a noticeable smell. The property needs fresh paint and better quality linens to be a desirable site. The small bathroom has no flat surface for toiletries and 2 of the 3 over the sink light bulbs were burned out. Everything was enjoyable. We live 10 minutes from there so drive time was awesome with 5 gr andchildren! Fishing, Bike riding, playgrounds and pools were very well kept. A growing city in Washington County MD with lots to see and do. Especially if you're a civil war buff. There's the famous Antietam Battlefield. Hagerstown is at a crossroads in Maryland, so it has plenty of places to eat and shop near the interstates. The downtown has potential, but there are not too many places to grab a drink or shop, however the Maryland Theater is outstanding. The Hagerstown City Park is also a highlight.
