FAQs about hotels in Azores
Portuguese Paradise Islands
The discovery of the Azores Islands is surrounded by many myths, but the official story places it in the year 1431 by Gonçalo Velho Cabral. Since then, they have been settled in different waves of migrations, creating a distinctive identity that mixes local and Portuguese continental traditions.
With their colourful houses, beautiful beaches, green hills and volcanoes, lakes, and rich traditions, the Azores Archipelago is a unique place to explore. Composed of 9 main islands and several smaller islets, their landscape and culture create magnificent settings and opportunities to enjoy.
The volcanic lakes on São Miguel Island offer beautiful beaches, earth ovens, and great panoramic views surrounded by green slopes. Being the biggest island, you will find a wide range of Azores hotels on São Miguel.
The Holy Spirit festivals mark the liveliest season and are celebrated on every island from May to September. Check out the availability of hotels for the Azores Islands on the Booking.com website during those dates.
On Pico Island, you can climb the 2,351 meters of Mount Pico, the highest point in Portugal. The picturesque city of Angra do Heroismo on Terceira Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

- From £112.81 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very good - What previous guests thought, 433 reviewsI don't understand why so many people are complaining about this hotel. It is as close to the ferry terminal as you can get. , The rooms are clean and tidy. The pool has a nice view on Faial, and is beeing cleaned every morning (and they are probably the only ones having a pool in Pico anyway...) You can walk in less than 5 minutes to all the different tour operators (Diving, Hiking, Whalewatching, Rentalcars....) and restaurants. It is maybe a bit dated, but I felt like they were doing their best at being welcomig. They even organise a mini breakfast buffet from 04 a.m - 7 a.m for people leaving early on hikes or diving tours...! Keep in mind that every Airbnb in the area is more expensive , without offering you room service, breakfast or a pool area. If you come to Pico for its great nature activities, and want an easy hotel, thats your place to go!!Guest review byYannLuxembourg
- From £178.89 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,277 reviewsMy family and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Pestana Bahia Resort in the Azores Islands, and it was an unforgettable experience that exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that made us feel right at home. The resort itself is a stunning oasis, nestled amidst the lush, green landscape that the Azores are famous for. Our accommodation was spacious, immaculately clean, and equipped with all the modern amenities that a family of four could need. The beds were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep after each day's adventures. What truly sets Pestana Bahia Resort apart, however, is its exceptional staff. Every member of the team was friendly, helpful, and genuinely dedicated to making our stay as enjoyable as possible. In suGuest review byEduardosSlovakia
- From £174.42 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.0Very good - What previous guests thought, 896 reviewsBreakfast was good, but it had been mostly one and the same through whole stay Room was comfortable, big enough, with a terrace toward the ocean. Pools both external and internal were clean and well maintained, but probably I had an allergy to one of the chemicals used to keep it clean, so reduced stay at certain moment. Gaming room with many games available from reception ... we used it when the weather was not good.Guest review byBorisLuxembourg

It's a very pleasant city, very clean, and has many great cafes and restaurants. It's wonderful to simply stroll through the streets and is a good base for traveling in Sao Miguel and taking excursions on the island. I really liked this city.Guest review bycleophas0544261361Germany - 10.0

This is a historic town with interesting architecture, cute stores, good restaurants and a beautiful park area where (out on the point) where you can walk. We thought it had a lot more interest than towns on San Miquel island.Guest review byKarenUnited States - 10.0
What I love about Horta is that you feel like you are...
What I love about Horta is that you feel like you are entering an entirely different culture and way of living. I do not like traveling to areas where I feel it is American culture in a foreign place. If I go again I would definitely make more of an effort in learning the language enough to carry on small conversations. Breakfast was a culture shock for me. I am used to protein shakes and toast in the morning. They do not eat breakfast that way. There was only one place that served omlettes or eggs but even there it was not close enough to an American breakfast. Lunch and dinner were fine. If you will be there for a week or more I highly suggest you go to the grocery store for breakfast items like milk, cereal, bread etc. The pastries at the various bakeries are to die for. I have put on weight despite heavy walking.Guest review byAmyUnited States - 10.0
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in.
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in. You can book acitivities with agencies near the port. There are a couple of really good restaurants. Pico wine is amazing! During my stay in Pico (may) the weather was extremely changing and it was very hard to plan activities such a hiking Mt. Pico that depends on the weather. The temperature could feel like 30c while it was sunny and felt like 10c when cloudy and rainy. The same goes for the wind. Averall worth the experience tho. :)Guest review byMartinCanada - 10.0
We wanted an authentic, non-touristy area to base ourselves.
We wanted an authentic, non-touristy area to base ourselves. That’s Ribeira Grande. Pretty town with all amenities (grocery, laundry, museums), gorgeous town square and walkability. Nice access to rest of island for hikes. Friendly locals. Chocolatino, Tukatula, O Canadiano, Pacheco, casa de Pasto Flor-all great restaurants for varying appetites. Azores Brewing-excellent beer and fun vibe.Guest review byTimUnited States - 10.0
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying,...
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying, with very nice people, and an overall good atmosphere. There is enough to see and to enjoy, from food, ice-creams, and cafes. It also has a lovely small market where you can eat as well, and opposite a garden with a nice sitting area. It has all possible shops, a large grocery, it's surrounded by hills, and much green. There are many very nice old houses, nicely renovated We are not young, so I can't say. There is a very nice and spacious beach with fine black sand The town is a little bit on a hill, but by walking down, you can enjoy a very nice view of the sea. This is also the heart of the town. Another good trip is a walk the monup the hill to ument. It can be walked from both sides, both offering very nice views all around. Moving around without a car is quite difficultGuest review byJIRINASlovakia - 10.0
The best place to stay on Sao Miguel.
The best place to stay on Sao Miguel. You can easily walk to Lake Furnas and Parque Grená which has lots of waterfalls. There are thermal springs you can visit at both Terra Nostra and Poça da Dona Beija (which was great at night time). Espinha cocktail bar was lovely as was Terra Nostra Restaurant. You could spend a whole day walking around the area where there are parks with geothermal activity and a beautiful church in the centre. We ate in a lot and there are lots of lovely bakeries in the town and supermarkets.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0

São Roque is very spread out, so a car is needed if you stay outside the heart of the village. Most restaurants were closed, so dining out was tricky (end of March). It is worth staying in a self catering place when going off season. The minimarket by the fire-station is well stocked. Safe swimming spot at the Naval Club. Close to hiking trails.Guest review byOdilePortugal - 8.0
Velas was a nice quite town. There is lots to see and do.
Velas was a nice quite town. There is lots to see and do. Great hotels and friendly staff. There is a "pool" downtown at the seawall within the ocean due to rocks that have been placed, so you can swim. They have a stage where artists and singers can perform. Lots of cute shops with great merchansie to purchase, with easy streets to walk through. Lots of cobbled stones, so wear comfortable shoes. Great restaurants down cute little streets and lots of friendly people who want to help you regardless if you can speak portuguese or not.Guest review byPamelaUnited States - 10.0

It is a beautiful and historic building with so much character. It has calm and peaceful seating areas throughout where you can sit in comfort. They have the best breakfast and we relied on the banana for a snack as we were out and about during the day. This location is perfect for exploring the island as it is centrally located. We will definitely be backGuest review bySallyUnited Kingdom
