If you never been to Kalpitiya, it has a sense of being on the outskirts of civilization. Here you stay nestled among the houses of the locals and share the beach with its fishermen. Beside great kite- and windsurfing (and endless beaches of course), there is not a ton of things to do in Kalpitiya. Scuba diving is good, when there is visibility. Dolphin watching is also a possible activity, but quite an expensive one that last a couple of hours. You won’t find any city center with shops, bars and restaurants near, but you can of course visit other resorts and use their facilities. However you should know that you have a very good restaurant on site if you stay at the Sea Sand Resort! This establishment is made up of about 10 small bungalows with a restaurant. The bungalows are quite basic, but very clean and comfortable and represents good value for money. Within about 10 minutes or more on foot, you can reach surf schools and beaches. From my own experience I can promise that you will be very well taken care off if you chose to stay at Sea Sand Resort.

We recently enjoyed a memorable stay at Ceylon Resort Wildpattu, located near Wildpattu National Park. The owner was exceptionally kind and upgraded our room to a spacious, comfortable suite complete with a large bathroom and hot water. The resort’s unique setting nestled within nature means you’re surrounded by the sights and sounds of the jungle—even the garden attracts a variety of local wildlife. Despite arriving late (around 10:20 PM), we were warmly welcomed. The owner personally ensured that our late arrival was taken care of by waiting with a delicious buffet dinner featuring an array of traditional Sri Lankan dishes. He even explained every dish and introduced us to delightful local desserts. Another highlight was the convenient transportation service offered by the resort. The owner arranged rides to and from various destinations, even picking us up from a location 2.5 hours away. We also took part in an exciting safari trip to Wildpattu National Park via this resort.. Our driver for safari was knowledgeable and resourceful, successfully handling minor other mcar repairs during the safari. The journey through the humid forest was thrilling as we encountered numerous animals, creating an unforgettable wildlife experience. While our stay was brief—we only spent one night as we headed out for a full-day safari—the clean, spacious rooms and the owner’s attentive care made it feel like a home away from home. I wholeheartedly recommend Ceylon Resort Wildpattu to anyone looking for an immersive nature experience combined with genuine hospitality.

Great team - special thanks to Mr. Kuma and Mr. Kumara for making our stay unforgettable! We felt very comfortable and taken care of. Very kind and helpful Mr. Kuma told us about Wilpattu, took us on a trip to show us elephants, helped us organize really great safari in National Park and our trip back to Negombo.     I really enjoyed my stay. The wooden bungalows are very rustic and cozy, with open roofing and an outdoor shower. The garden is well-maintained too. The school has a WhatsApp group where they share information about lesson planning, wind conditions, and activities, which I found really well-organized. Dinners are served with all the guests at the kite center, which was just 5 minutes away by bike. Safran was my instructor. He is very experienced and teaches in a great way—always calm, helpful, and full of good advice. I made great progress thanks to him. I felt like in a kitesurf community . Thanks a lot to Safran and all the Margarita staff!

    Amazing destination for kite holidays. We loved staying at the camp, really enjoyed the fact that we had all our meals at one big table with the other guests, so easy to meet new people that share the same passion for kite surfing. Also hard to beat the staffs friendliness and costumer service, absolutely 5star outstanding. Main Kitesurfing spot (Lagoon) is as well great, though always gusty winds (+10kn gusts to base wind). Perfect for beginners. If you're a better kiter though, you'll definitely want to go on the kite trips. The trip spots are much nicer, but can add up in quite an additional budget (25-45EUR/trip).

    We had a wonderful stay almost the entire hotel to ourselves since it seemed to be low season. Our Vila was very big and clean and comfortable. The bathroom outside was really nice although I never went out by myself lol. Be careful squirrels that go in your room to look for food but are harmless!! The breakfast was good and the pool always clean. Beautiful walk to the beach.

    Perfect stay at the Karanukarala Ayurveda resort, especially the Ayurveda treatment was wonderful. In the beginning, the crew told me it was fully booked, but in the end, they managed to schedule it for me. The room was big, and really clean and the beds were very comfortable. I enjoyed my stay there, especially to relax (recommend the yoga and meditation classes).

    Kalpitiya is an enchanting destination.

    Kalpitiya is an enchanting destination. It's the only place in Sri Lanka where you can take kitesurfing lessons and safely practice kitesurfing with expert assistance from seasoned local kitesufers. Although it's generally considered an arid landscape, even in August, one of the driest months in Sri Lanka, it was largely green and without sweltering heat. Probably, the strong wind causes the heat to dissipate. There's a long stretch of fairly clean beach to explore. Many hotels to stay in and many restaurants to dine at. If you take the train from the Colombo fort railway station like me, you can get down at Palaviya station and walk about 100 metres to reach the road leading from Palaviya to Kalpitiya and take a bus from there and then get down at either Kurinjipitiya or Kalpitiya depending on where you plan to visit and/or stay in. Apart from Kitesurfing, you can go sightseeing, see dolphins, bask in the sunshine, take boat tours, cycle and more in Kalpitiya.

    The Manager of the hotel and his staff (including 3 dogs and a cat) are above any praise. If you seek for a well organized place to rest without problems do come to Puetz Travels Beach Resort. Mr. Marcus will make your trip a real holyday. Even wild crocodiles that live in the nearby river dream to move to the magic canals of Puetz Travels Beach Resort. I wish i were among the lucky ones.     We should have stayed a few days longer in order to get to know the surroundings a bit better, maybe also take a bus or train up further north on the peninsula. It would be nice to have a bicycle there, as it is all flat and we would have been more independent to look around.

    Wilpattu is an absolutely stunning place close to the reserve. That tents have everything that you need that is good shower is good. The barbecue in the evening is really nice and the surroundings stunning. The staff is super helpful and will go out of their way to accommodate you. We booked a Safari through the accommodation and the Driver and spotter were excellent !

    The place is magical Mr Omar has a love for nature and transmits this to his guests. The staff Mrs Lakshi and Mr Ikhmar were very helpful and kind. The food superb and even the wine! The grounds of the property are in the forest. The lagoon is beautiful and birdwatcher ‘s paradise. The best walk at the lotus pond with hundreds different species of birds.

    We planed our trip for three days.

    We planed our trip for three days. There are several places to visit in Kalpitiya. We went to Kalpitiya Dutch fort, also Kalpitiya Dutch church. St. Anne's National Shrine is located nearby. It is known as Thalawila Church too. No matter what religion you follow, St. Anne’s Church in Thalawila is one of the most ancient and wonderful of all Christian shrines in Sri Lanka. Our third day was very exiting because we planned a boat ride to Baththalangunduwa island. Baththalangunduwa is an island off the northwestern coast of Sri Lanka, reachable from Kalpitiya. The boat ride from Kalpitiya is roughly 32 kilometers long and takes approximately 3.5 hours. Camping on this island is becoming increasingly popular among local tourists.
