I had the pleasure of staying at Farm Villa Resort in Katharagama for two nights, and it was a wonderful and memorable experience from start to finish! 🌿 From the moment we arrived, the welcome was warm and heartfelt. The staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with anything. Special mention to the front office team – truly a gem in hospitality! The room was spacious, the bathroom was very big, and the overall comfort . The clean and inviting swimming pool was perfect for cooling off and relaxing in the serene atmosphere. What makes Farm Villa Resort truly special is its beautiful location surrounded by nature. The resort is set amidst lush paddy fields, and there's a charming little lake flowing through the property, creating a peaceful, scenic environment ideal for rest and reflection. I enjoyed walking through the paddy fields, listening to the birds in the mornings, and even got to pick fresh fruits from the garden! 🍌🌾 It's also conveniently located – just a short walk to the sacred Kirivehera and Katharagama Dewalaya, making it perfect for both pilgrims and nature lovers.One of the biggest highlights was the full-day Yala Safari arranged by the hotel – an absolutely amazing adventure! 🐘🦁 We saw incredible wildlife, and everything was perfectly organized with a knowledgeable guide.The food was another standout. The traditional Sri Lankan dinner was flavorful and authentic, clearly made with care and love. The breakfast offered plenty of variety, and every meal was beautifully presented. The dining team was attentive and courteous, adding to the overall great experience.In summary, Farm Villa Resort offers far more than just a place to stay – it's a place to connect with nature, enjoy delicious food, and experience genuine Sri Lankan hospitality. We really enjoyed our stay here! It was the ideal place to relax and recharge after the buzz of Arugam Bay, and a great base for a day trip to explore Ella. The place was spotlessly clean and super comfortable – we felt right at home. The hosts were so kind and helpful, offering tuk tuk services and even giving us clear pricing for transport andl tours. They also asked us each evening what we’d like for breakfast – such a lovely touch – and it was always fresh and delicious. The facilities were great, the vibe was peaceful, and we couldn’t fault a thing. Highly recommend if you want something welcoming, clean, and well-run!

I really like this place. This is gateway to 3 national parks in Sri Lanka. They are near to nice lake where I took canoe ride. Wonderful tree house that I ever stayed. Highly recommend this place.

    Coming down the B35 from Ella in our own tuktuk, we booked Safari Lodge Yala in Katharagama as our seventh accommodation on 25-27 March during our 15-day road trip, because of its proximity to the northern entrance to Yala NP. We were greeted with much enthusiasm by Savinda, who assigned us to the "Woodpecker" room. Nice and spacious with and en-suite bathroom. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, just like the pineapple juice with a scoop of ice cream. A private safari was arranged for us by the accommodation with service partner Onadi Yala Safari. Driver and guide Prasad made this an unforgettable experience. Love from Belgium, Raf and Nadine

    Kataragama itself is a temple town and that’s pretty much it. Other than that it’s a jumping off point for safari in yala and kumana. One day is more than enough for cultural/religious aspects. The Perahara (pageant) in July is fantastic. Be warned that it may not start till midnight and may need pre booked tickets. Also watch out for pickpockets in crowded areas around this time. The country side and the rural life as well as the wildlife is fantastic and authentic. Quite hot and sunny year round but dec to feb is more comfortable.

    We went for leopard safari & it is in zones 5&6. Safari was excellent & saw one leopard & a bear! Hotels generally not near any restaurants so confined to your hotel for dining. Would not want more than one or two nights there.

    Nice place surrounded by beautiful paddy filled, adjacent river was another level experience since it was a perfect place to chill out after incredible tour of elephants and birds watching. We got easy access to one of the Yala gates. Thank for the Sri Lankan authentic breakfast, even host didn't charge for that. All good, highly recommended

    I thought it was a different place to go for Safari. But, almost all vehicles come from Tissa for Safari pickup so it doesn't really matter if you book a room in Tissa or Katharagama for the Safari.

    Buttala is a beautiful little city close to the northern...

    Buttala is a beautiful little city close to the northern part of Yala National Park. If you pass by (maybe on your way to/from the east coast), stop here and enjoy a couple of nights in the local homestays (we can fully recommend Yala Avian Eye Safari!!). Safaris from here are calm and you can enjoy the northern part without hundreds of other jeeps.
