- From US$312.68 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 187 reviewsWow. This place features the most attentive and positive staff in Japan! They did all they could to attend to our needs, including preparing a completely unique meal for my partner to ensure he had the best dining experience possible for his culinary tastes. A member of staff who spoke fluent English was assigned to us, and she was always there ready to help out. The room itself was outstanding. The tatami room looked out onto a garden, with delicate mosses, ferns and stepping stones across a sweet little stream. All set against towering cypress trees. Everything was so beautiful. There was a fridge in the room, fresh ikebana display, large b beautiful bath and shower fed by onsen water. The most special thing about this hotel is it's onsen. The public bath is great, very large and with bright, natural light. However it's the onsen that is reserved for guests that steals the show (taki no yu). With the best view, coi carp dancing at the foot of waterfalls, pink flowering camelia framing a stone lantern, small shrubs and great lighting. The sauna is cypress wood, and you can smell it as soon as you get inside. The large view from the sauna is sublime. The temperature is set at a steady 55° and you can enter a plunge pool of cold water when you're done. You may even experience 'totonou', which is what the Japanese call the state of transcendence that comes from hot-cold therapy! Visit Taishoya and experience the beautiful, happy town of Ureshino. Eat yudofu with rice, saga beef and delicious fish. You won't be disappointed!Guest review byEllenUnited Kingdom
- From US$474.98 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 26 reviewsI was hesitant to book this resort initially as there was only 1 recent review when I booked, and the older reviews of the original hotel were not that good. However, I decided to take a chance and I'm so glad I did!!! The resort is newly renovated and all the furnishings and decor are all very clean and new. The resort location was ideal as I wanted to be located near Mifuneyama Rakuen so I could go see the Autumn colours at night (only 6 min drive away). The facilities on the resort were fantastic.... the spa pool required swimsuits which the resort thoughtfully prepared for each guest, all packed in individual tote bags. The hot spring pool was a a bit small, but the resort was not packed when we stayed, so there were no other people around when we used the spa pool or hot spring. But what impressed me the most has to be the amazing service we received. Most of the staff did not speak English or could only speak minimal English, but they always tried their best to understand our needs, and made us feel so comfortable. The staff's dedication and service quality are top-notch. The food was so amazing as well (The sukiyaki dinner and Japanese breakfast included in the stay were so good!)Guest review byCassandraSingapore
- From US$253.12 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.6Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 320 reviewsThis is the best ryokan I have ever stayed in Japan. In the middle of the property there is a beautifully maintained Japanese garden, and we are given a room that opens out to the garden. We sleep very well on the comfortable futon and the space is quiet day and night. There is a gallery in the ryokan showcasing the works of a famous Karatsu family of potters, and artworks are displayed everywhere. The food, both breakfast and dinner, is superb. We have the opportunity to chat with the retired owner of the ryokan who lives on the premises. He and his wife are very kind and happy to interact with guests. The ryokan is very close to the sea and in the morning we take a walk along the beach, enjoying the coolness and the most beautiful light. We will definitely come again next time we visit the area. Thank you everyone for the wonderful service and thoughtfulness in bringing us the best experience.Guest review byKattyHong Kong
- From US$121.82 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.7Good - What previous guests thought, 69 reviewsThe staff could not have been more helpful. I had a medical issue and a lady at reception arranged help for me. The hotel is only about an 8 minute walk from Imari Station where the Fukuoka Showa Bus also arrives and departs. There is a lovely Izakaya (pub) right next to the hotel car park and an Aeon supermarket nearby. The best thing is their buffet breakfast. A large choice of freshly prepared food with menu specials that change daily. There is a coffee and soft drink bar in the lobby. You can catch a train on the Matsuura Railway line from Imari to Arita but there is only one per hour. It is only a 15 minute bus ride to the pottery village of Okawachiyama but use the timetable outside Imari Station to plan your trip. Only ¥200 each way.Guest review byMonicaAustralia
- From US$320.53 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 248 reviewsLocation on the fringe of Karatsu is ideal, with easy parking. Our room in East Wing faced the beach and had a superb view on the bay. The outdoor swimming pool is beautiful, large enough for a little swim, with views right on the seaside and the celebrated local pine grove. You can easily go from beach to swimming pool. We were well received and kindly upgraded to a huge, luxurious room; every comfort you can think of was there. The circulation from bedroom to onsen to swimming pool can be complex, but we were given an English language map that greatly helped. This was our second stay in Karatsu, and we'd love to come back and stay in Karatsu Seaside Hotel another time !Guest review byAmélieFrance
- From US$477.82 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 44 reviewsThe kaiseki dinner is very nice. Breakfast spread was good and varied. The onsen facilities in ryokan is very good, especially the open air bath area. The sand bath option is unusual, and the foot bath avail is nice too. Even as the staff mostly cannot speak english well, they were very helpful and assisted to their best efforts. The shop in lobby level is interesting with things to purchase.Guest review bySeow ChimSingapore
- From US$55.90 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.2Good - What previous guests thought, 571 reviewsThere are lots of choices for breakfast, which suits both Japanese and foreign guests. I especially like the grilled saba (fish). It's about a 10 minute stroll to the stadium or to the centre of the city. Staff are friendly, helpful and capable of speaking English. Coffee machine in the lobby.Guest review bydavidJapan

I'd strongly recommend taking the time to ensure that the accommodation you're booking is close enough to any specific areas you wish to visit. Saga itself, is simply a township without too many attractions other than a museum, a castle and a couple of short, pretty walks. If you want to see something further afield, such as Arita or Imari (located in the Saga region), be prepared for quite a bit of travel. Even places to stay near these areas are several kilometers away.Guest review byCarolyneAustralia - 10.0

Ureshino is famous for the green tea and the onsen. The Ureshino Tea Exchange musuem is 100% worth a visit and don't forget to drink a tea in the cafe! It is amazing quality and very cheap (300 yen for 1 tea) Then I would also recommend Fuji restaurant, they make great Okonomiyake, Yakisoba and many more dishes! Staff is amazing! If you have a car drive up to the mountain to visit the tea fields, 100 % worth it!Guest review byStefienPortugal - 10.0

I did an overnight trip to Takeo, and it was great - the Takeo shrine and Public library are right next to each other, and both are worth the visit. I also went to an onsen the following morning and that was a great experience. The town seems very easily walkable, and is a great stop between Fukuoka and Nagasaki.Guest review byRachelAustralia - 10.0

One of the most comfortable places we have stayed in, in a very long time. Spotlessly clean. Fresh flowers, snacks on arrival. Clean, beyond comparison. This is not a place to stay if you want city life. It is a super quiet village. The observatory behind the house is one of the best cherry blossom destinations we have been to. We spent 2 hours there and we were the only people on the mountain. Spectacular.Guest review byRaymondUnited States - 10.0

We loved being able to visit some of the kilns and see how the porcelain is made. As well as showrooms, some makers had museums showing older pieces of their work. The Kyushu Ceramic Museum had fabulous pieces on display and good explanations on the processes involved. The locals were very friendly and helpful and pleased to have visitors interested in their porcelain.Guest review byJanetAustralia - 8.0

We walked to the old part of Saga City and discovered the historic Nagasaki Highway or Sugar Road filled with special shops that families have run for generations, the cultural museum and tours of historic homes! There are also new businesses created by younger entrepreneurs so there’s a youthful feeling as well.Guest review byJenniferUnited States - 10.0

The reception lady is super nice, she welcomed us with a warm smile, answered all questions and offered information on the room and facilities, then walked us to the room. A very relaxing stay with in-room onsen, the public bath is good too. Breakfast is adequate, though more types of drinks could be offered in addition to coffee and green tea.Guest review byPollyHong Kong - 10.0
We were there just to see the sakura.
We were there just to see the sakura. It is worth a trip to Japan just to see the night viewing of sakura at Mifuneyama Rakuen. It was magic. We also went to Takeo Shrine. The huge bamboo and the 3,000 year-old camphor tree are also amazing. One warning - at both places, be prepared to walk uphill, a lot!Guest review byJamesUnited States - 10.0

1 - Must go to the Yutoku Onsen. Beautiful outdoor pools (busy around 7pm, lots of locals with kids), very tasty restaurant - great bargain ¥1000 for the onsen AND dinner included. Massage, etc facilities on site. 2 - Town is cute with lots of ceramics everywhere for great instagram moments. 3 - MUST go up to the Okawachiyama pottery village - take the back roads, as they are beautiful. 15 minute or less drive, 1 hour bike ride or so.Guest review bySarahJapan - 10.0
