The hotel is located far away from stores and supermarkt but it was worth it. When we arrived we receivied a guide with restaurants options, also they had snow tools for cleaning the car. The shower at the room was very nive and clean.

    This place is just incredible. The city is very cute and with a lot of old style buildings. There is a nice river flowing in the middle of the city. The hotel is super nice, clean and almost luxurious. There are two different Onsen and they are also very beautiful. The rooms are big and the staff very gentle. Also the breakfast is very rich and buffet style. The hitel itself is almost like a village. There are three different buildings, a big souvenir shop, a fashion store and several restaurants inside the structure. On a rainy day you could have a wonderful day without having to leave the hotel.

    Hello The hotel has impeccable service. The rooms were clean, the food was spectacular. The location is the best, very close to the trains. The hosts were very kind and respectful. I did not speak Japanese or English, but communication with the translators was sufficient. They helped us a lot at the reception. Without a doubt, when I return, I will stay at that hotel.     Okuhida garden hotel yakedake is surrounded by nature and is located near Hirayu onsen. It is tucked away in the lap of nature and the rooms have a beautiful view with balcony. The rooms are typical Rokyon style and the amenities provided is ample. Stayed here after hiking Mt hotaka in kamikochi and I couldn't have asked for a better place to relax. I would definitely recommend okuhida garden to my fellow travelers.

    Takayama is a jewell in the mountains.

    Takayama is a jewell in the mountains. Small, walkable, ( around the city or in the mountains ), has great food, friendly people… There are plenty of day trips from Takayama. We could not go to the valley to try onsen ( heavy rains ) and went to the Green hotel instead - the onsen there was, surprisingly, beautiful and relaxing. The train journey from Takayama to Kyoto is spectacular ( sit on the left side ) - amazing views of the mountains and the river.

    RELAXING QUIET GIFU!

    RELAXING QUIET GIFU! We just wanted to visit other places in Japan. We have been to Japan a few times already. We like going to these kind of relaxing places. We went hiking, we walked everywhere since everything was walkable. We had so much local food and sake of course! ONSEN! Nature everywhere! We also met some of my aunt's family and friends. It felt like a home. We love everything in here. We could have stayed longer but will be back and will see the other sights. Thank you GIFU! :)

    The 8km trail from Magome was great and there were buses...

    The 8km trail from Magome was great and there were buses going from the station to take you to the start of that short trail. On the return you could either walk to the train station a short walk from Tsumago or catch a bus back to Magome then another back to Nakatsugawa station. Lots of options and times. A beautiful and picturesque walk.

    Gero has so much to share, with food, including Hida beef, yes get familiar with it. It's top level Wagyu beef and is from Hida the region that Gero is situated. The city is easy to get around in the snow (in Winter) and in the rain (in Spring), with places that are easy to walk or ride share to. Gero to most is a journey to get to with taking the trains, but it's well worth the journey, having seen cherry blossoms in the ever greens AND the snow falling like in a "snow globe", encrusting the tress, during the train ride. We are fortunate to have experienced Gero twice and now looking for a third stay, in Autumn for the changing of the leaves!

    1 day experience is perfect.

    1 day experience is perfect. The tourist site can be done in a few hours if your arrive before noon. Next is to enjoy a good hotel stay with onsen and their gourmet dinner onsite from late afternoon to night. Follow by breakfast and leave to next destination. There is a storage place next to the bus terminal if you have luggage to store for a few hours and check out tourist venue next to it before heading to the hotel. We chose to ship our large luggage from Tokyo to Kyoto via the Family Mart or Yamato shipping services from Tokyo.

    It’s a beautiful historic town.

    It’s a beautiful historic town. The hotel is in a perfect location. The town was easy to get around , plenty of stores, and restaurants. I would recommend taking a taxi to the Hida Folk village. Make sure to get to the morning market. See if there are any festivals going on. Try a Hida burger near the treat station. Enjoy all that Takyama has to offer. It was a lovely stay.

    We arrived here after our first four nights in Tokyo and...

    We arrived here after our first four nights in Tokyo and welcomed the peacefulness and pace of the town. We walked two legs of the Nakasendo Way using Nakatsugawa as our base: one leg walking from Nakatsugawa to Magome and the other bussing to Magome and walking to Tsumago from there and then returning to Nakatsugawa to our delightful guest house. Everyone we met here was helpful and kind. .

    Gero is a gorgeous town in the valley in Gifu.

    Gero is a gorgeous town in the valley in Gifu. There is a much slower pace here, incredibly friendly people. and beautiful nature. There's many nooks and crannies where you'll find interesting things, and the Gassho-mura open-air museum village is a must-see area.

    It has beautiful views of the snow, river, mountains and of course the thatched roof houses. The air is fresh but it is difficult to find a restaurant because they close early. It is boring at night. It would be better if visitors just go to Shirakawa for a day trip and stay at Takayama.
