Our stay was perfect. The hotel location was excellent for day hikes. The hotel's excellent breakfast provided energy for the hikes, A+! The spa area was clean and relaxing. The balcony in the room provided a nice place for cooling off. The room was clean and although it was the smallest room, it was spacious enough for two adults. The room was nicely renovated and the bathroom was absolutely lovely. The staff is first class and very friendly. Grazie!

Amazing stay in Ortesei close to the city center. The room had a balcony that overlooked at the river and the town. Everyone in the hotel was so nice and friendly and helped us with planning our day to make the most of our stay. Dinner was amazing, specially the Salmon Trout! :) If you like family hotels that are cozy and make you feel at home, this is your place to stay.

The hotel was definitely the best part of a great skiing trip. The suite was spacious, we enjoyed the private sauna in the balcony every day. Getting into a hot steamy sauna after a day of skiing and watching the snow tractors leaving to fix the slopes while the last late skiers are rushing back home, enjoying the view in the balcony with a glass of beer - that is a feeling second to none. Hotel is well located, close to the center, right besides a blue slope that leads to/fom Campinoi cable car.

Excellent location with easy access to the town centre; a few minutes' walk to the Alpe di Siusi cable car station, less than 15 minutes to the Seceda cable car and Resciesa funicular. The walk back up to the hotel might be steep but worth the view for rooms facing the mountains or town centre. Additionally, Sylvia and her son, Samuel, are great hosts. We looked forward to breakfast time, a delight to be welcomed with warm greetings every morning. They were helpful to make recommendations whenever we had questions concerning tourist attractions and places to eat. Room was kept basic, but we could request for bottle opener and clothes rack (based on availability). A communal fridge at basement could be used to store fruits and drinks. A very pleasant and cozy stay, with great views and hospitality. Would definitely recommend this place to those visiting Ortisei!

FAQs about hotels in Val Gardena

Dream Valley of the Dolomites

Situated between 1,250 and 1,550 metres above sea level, Val Gardena is part of the South Tyrol region of Italy. The Gardena River runs alongside it, surrounded by the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites. Populated by a Latin-speaking majority, its fabric mixes Austrian and Italian traditions.

Sasso Lungo Mountain (3,181 metres) is probably one of the most iconic symbols of the valley, while the Puez-Odle Natural Park also includes some of the highest peaks of the valley. A large part of Val Gardena hotels are in Selva, precisely because the town is located between the Sasso Lungo and the Park. Ortisei and Santa Cristina are the other 2 towns in the valley.

Val Gardena is also celebrated for the quality of its handcraftsmanship, particularly for the woodcarvers specialised in religious statuary. Nonetheless, it counts with beautiful refuges and restaurants located in the mountains, offering delicious meals accompanied with breath-taking views.

But it’s during winter that the valley offers its most renowned side: Val Gardena’s ski facilities are some of the best of Europe. The very fast Saslong World Cup track or the Sella Ronda are legendary.

From luxury hotels in Val Gardena to simple accommodation in the surroundings, don’t forget to check out the wide offerings available on Booking.com!

This was our first visit to the South Tyrol and we absolutely loved the Hotel Maria. The central location in the traditional town of Ortisei was very convenient for restaurants and shops, and the local cable car station for accessing the Alpe de Susi (Seiser Alm) with the most breath-taking scenery and numerous hiking trails, was less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Our well-furnished, comfortable and spacious room had a balcony overlooking the beautiful square which was bustling with activity during the day and evening, and quiet at night. Our bedroom, bathroom and the public areas were spotlessly clean and we cannot fault the high standard of housekeeping. The beds were extremely comfortable too, and we we slept very well after long days walking in the mountains. The staff were superb, and so attentive and helpful, with good local knowledge of hiking trails and local restaurants. The buffet breakfast was probably the best we have ever experienced, with a huge choice including eggs, hams, salmon, fruit and local speciality breads, cheeses and pastries. We look forward to returning to the Hotel Maria one day. The hotel location and facilities, and the wonderful and kind staff, exceeded our expectations.

The hotel exceeded our expectations in every way! The location is stunning, with breathtaking views and beautifully maintained surroundings. The outdoor terrace and relaxation areas around the property are perfect for unwinding and enjoying the scenery. The SPA is excellent, featuring an indoor hot tub, two saunas, and peaceful relaxation areas, plus an outdoor swimming pool. What truly stood out, however, were the staff and the food. We chose the half-board option and were grateful for it every evening—the breakfasts were fabulous with high-quality ingredients, and the dinners were absolutely superb. The staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful, creating a warm atmosphere throughout our stay. A lovely bonus is the complimentary organized hiking groups—we joined one and had a wonderful experience. Overall, a fantastic stay we’d happily recommend!

Location is very convenient for walking to restaurants and activities. Good amount of free parking on site. Our room was incredible. We got a suite that was even bigger than the pictures led us to believe. It also looks more kodern than the rest of the hotel, so our experience may not be representative. Everything was immaculate and clean. It was a pleasure spending our down time here on the deck or in the loungeroom by the (lights and smoke machine?) Fireplace. Bath and shower worked well and were very large.I think the room is insulated well too. It is quite cool outside but we were very comfortable inside. Staff were also very kind and helpful. We had the option to use the jacuzzi at the hotel or use the pool next door for free. There is also an option to rent mountain bikes for a decent price.

The owner is very kind person. As she presents the place, it is a farm house. In fact it is totally rebuild house with all modern facilities. So it is “farm” house for city persons 😉 Very nicely decorated, a lot of natural wood. Nicely located. You do not need to use any ski bus or your private car as first ski lift is at ski boots walking distance from which you have access to 500+ km of Dolomite slopes! Quiet, you can sleep well. Also undergrad parking and ski room very convenient.

The town is the perfect location to explore the Dolomites. Hotels and Apartments are plentiful and in every price level. You can choose from so many hikes (all different levels) you can fill 3 weeks. Depending what other locations are on your itinerary, 3 days allow you to see the highlights and get a sense of the beauty of the Dolomites. Yet, it's easy to fill a week. Summer like winter.

Because of the two gondolas accessible in town, we were able to explore both sides and experience a variety of terrain, none extremely challenging which worked for our various fitness levels. The views are stupendous and the convenience of the huts along the trails for lunch, a drink or even a break from the rain were fantastic. We didn't need to worry about packing snacks or lunches, and instead enjoyed reasonably priced, delicious meals along our hikes.

We really enjoyed our stay in this holiday house!

We really enjoyed our stay in this holiday house! Great location – very close to the cable cars that take you to Seceda and Monte Pana in the beautiful Dolomites. The area is peaceful and scenic, perfect for a relaxing getaway. The hosts were very kind, welcomed us with gifts, and gave us great tips on what to see and do nearby. The house had everything we needed: brand-new beds, super comfortable mattresses, and the host kindly provided lower pillows upon request. Everything was very clean and well maintained. We stayed on the ground floor – although the weather was rainy, it was always warm inside thanks to the heating. A perfect place for both active holidays and peaceful rest – highly recommended!

While Selva absolutely lived up to everything we had heard about how spectacular the Dolomites are, we unfortunately had no fresh snow. We'd made a very long trip from Australia to ski and snowboard, so it was disappointing. That said, we had decent cover and loved the long runs and apres venues. Completing the Sellaronda is one of the best experiences I've ever had on skis.

Santa Cristina Val Gardena is an absolute gem in the Dolomites. The town perfectly balances peaceful Alpine charm with great access to outdoor adventures. It's smaller and quieter than nearby Ortisei or Selva, which made it feel more authentic and relaxing, but it still offers everything you need — cozy cafes, excellent restaurants, and beautiful walking paths right from the center.

if you are a beginner intermediate you could spend a week on the Sella Ronda - if you are advanced you would get bored after 3-4 days Nothing very challenging for the real adrenaline junkies Selva is a pretty town with lots of hotels and few chalets. Quiet in the evenings.

There is something for everyone in Ortesei and it is a special family destination as well. We loved the summer climate, the cool crisp air, and the beauty of the amazing Dolomites. The restaurants were great, there was ample shopping, and the locals were warm, friendly and helpful. We did not have a car, but did not need one with the free bus system that was very efficient. The gondolas, funicular annd chair lifts took us to some great spots for hiking and the ambience in the Refugios was great!

Traditional Village that is set back from the main route so there is far less traffic than Selva. Still have quick access to the Sella Ronda from the main gondola Can be a little bit confusing navigating the pistes at first as they aren't all numbered clearly but it's quick to figure out. If you end up in Selva then there is a bus back but easier to take the gondola up and take the red down.
