FAQs about hotels in Sicily
An Island of Intrigue
The largest Italian island, Sicily has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, coveted by civilisations. Its Greek history is most evident at Agrigento whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples has amazingly well-preserved Greek temples.
Also important to Greece was Siracusa. Archimedes was born here and there is a theatre and necropolis to explore. However, the most spectacularly located Greek theatre is at Taormina. Set on a hill overlooking the glorious Mediterranean Sea, this theatre points towards Mount Etna smoking away in the distance above Catania. Picturesque Taormina is one of the most popular Sicily resorts and down below there are some wonderful Giardini Naxos hotels on the beach, available on Booking.com.
Another resort boasting some of the best Sicily hotels for families is fabulous Cefalù. Home to a lovely beach, this small town is dramatically located at the foot of a mountain. To the north-west are the Aeolian Islands (also known as the Lipari Islands), volcanic islands with plunging cliffs and secret coves.
Back on the main island, the capital Palermo is a seductive mix of amazing architecture and laidback life. Trapani to the west is known for its salt flats, whereas Messina to the east is where trains drive straight onto the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland.

- From US$965.71 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 198 reviewsIt is significantly more than a hotel, it is a very large resort, with a completely private beach, a very large swimming pool next to the beach (warning: that swimming pool is not heated, so it was quite cold in May), a Spa complex with a very nice and long indoor (heated) swimming pool, and several also very nice and large spa baths outside (these ones with warm water). The Spa reservation system ensures there are only a few guests at any time, no large crowd, and children aren't authorized in the Spa complex unless the weather is bad. The restaurants were excellent, I particularly recommend to have lunch next to the large outdoor pool, but the other two restaurants and the breakfast are excellent. Very nice room, loved the large private terrace. Everything was top notch. We had a small issue with our shower (rain shower stuck), and it was fixed very promptly. All the staff was super nice. We didn't play golf, but you can use one of the freely available bikes to cycle around the golf course, which is very nice (it is a private complex, so no external car).Guest review byGr0fFrance
- From US$418.86 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.9Good - What previous guests thought, 1,704 reviewsThe meals were fresh and the staff very friendly. I recommend learning Italian to take part in some of the entertainment but the holiday reps were very good at informing you of the activities such as salsa, aqua gym and drama shows as well as darts and guess the song games. I felt I understood Italian a lot more from my one week stay and for a first time resort experience it was lovely. Two pools and two pool bars. Two coffee bars indoor but mostly the one near restaurant was in use. Lovely stay, hope to return and loved swimming.Guest review bySundeepUnited Kingdom
- From US$354.87 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 454 reviewsIncredible stay! The staff made us feel welcomed and like family, they went above and beyond to cater to our every need. The facilities were impeccable and the thermal pools took away all our stress. The food was fresh, delicious and healthy. The pizza was actually the best we've had in Sicily, we have been travelling around the island so this is a big claim to make! The only problem is we didn't want to leave the accommodation to explore the surrounding area! Internet was great and we were able to get work done.Guest review byAchillesAustralia
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 110 reviewsThis is my second time at this resort. It is so peaceful, surrounded by trees. Beach is amazingly beautiful. Pools- you are spoilt for choice. The animation team is great!!!We had a soft spot for Tommaso, he was so humble and kind and funny ...but truly all of them were great 😁 The staff at the pool bar were always gentle and professional too. Perfect place if you want to relax, especially with kids. Kids clubs are amazing, however kids need to know Italian, as most of the team are Italian speaking only.Guest review byPRISCILLAMalta

Palermo was a delightful surprise, a gem of a town.
Palermo was a delightful surprise, a gem of a town. It's clear that tourism, as we know it today, is still a relatively new phenomenon here, and there's much left to explore. However, that is also part of the charm of the place. Everything feels incredibly authentic; the people are kind, caring, and spontaneous, embracing the wave of tourists curious about what the city has to offer. In general, I found many individuals to be open-hearted and genuinely interested in showcasing the best of Sicily. The beauty of Palermo lies in finding a cozy corner, enjoying a nice coffee, gelato, beer, or limoncello spritz, and simply soaking in the ambiance. It's a wonderful opportunity to observe how simple and beautiful life is in Palermo. I will definitely be back.beautiful life is in Palermo. I will definitely be back.Guest review byAlejandraSweden - 4.0
The historic centre is beautiful.
The historic centre is beautiful. But, step outside the tourist area and the city is filthy and stinks. The historic centre is just a few small city blocks with a central piazza, after that, the city is in disrepair, the buildings, even centuries old ones, are vandalised with graffiti. There are many derelict buildings and the pavements are a minefield of dog mess and stink of urine. We felt that 3 nights was two nights too many. We will not be back.Guest review byrichardUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Cefalu was our forth and last stop of our vacation to...
Cefalu was our forth and last stop of our vacation to Sicilia. I went here based on reviews on social media. while a very clean nice town, I actually would not return. It is too touristy and artificially expensive for my liking. the beach is big, but lots of pebbles/rocks at the entry to the water. Also, the town is very busy, even the part which is new, with honking, crazy drivers and people staring at you like they want to kill you. we walked the old town streets, which were pretty, the restaurants were ok, but not amazing; one night we were very rudely turned away by 4 restaurants that closed their kitchens before 10 PM..which I found unusual, as I thought they eat late. Anyway..I think the fact that they get a lot of tourists make them not care about customer service, which I have to admit I found it the least pleasant out of our 4 locations. I think it is personal preference, we like small fishing villages, old towns that have less tourist traps and more authentic shops/restaurants. I am glad we went to Cefalu but would not return. I do want to return to Sicilia and see more of the south and maybe inland, where farms and authenticity is more present.Guest review byAlinaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

I love both beaches and lively city centers at the same time and Trapani can offer that. A perfect cable car trip directly from Trapani to historic Erice. A beautiful sunset and a view of the illuminated Trapani. Interesting places in the vicinity: Segesta and Selinunte archeological parks, the very unusual Nuova Gibellina (plus Cretto di Buri) and bustling Palermo with majestic monuments. There are plenty of great restaurants in Trapani. I can't miss the Meno Tredici gelateria in the harbor and the great arancini at Al Pollero da Roberto.Guest review byMiroslavCzech Republic - 8.0

Indications for people who driving there are poor, I was lost, I pass in front the entrance without realizing it, poor indicators. I stop and I find another car lost too. The car parking too expensive, the entrance tickets expensive, I went really early before there were too many people, I was able to take selfies for the more important monuments without any wait line. You must be ready with plenty of water, if you are going in summer time because its a really long walk under very strong summer lights. I guess you must see it at least once on your life, like everything relevant from our pass times. Obviously I am a simply tourist without knowledge about architecture. For those that understand I am sure must be fascinating.Guest review byencarniUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Beautiful town, full of life at night.
Beautiful town, full of life at night. Easily walkable, flat streets. Beach is nice and long, with multiple free areas. It's a gorgeous scene with the huge mountains, and lighthouse at the other end. It is definitely more of a touristy feel, as we went in August. Definitely explore up and down the peninsula, as there's excellent beaches and coves to swim at as well!Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0
Giardini-Naxos and the surrounding towns are, however,...
Giardini-Naxos and the surrounding towns are, however, unusually dirty, with a lot of litter scattered along the streets. The beach, on the other hand, has wonderfully clean and clear water. People are helpful. Traveling around, take time. The only rush is in traffic. If you travel by rental car, it helps to have a good map reader in the passenger seat and a calm mind. Honking is simply a part of the traffic culture. A motorcyclist may pass you on either the right or the left. Focus on the traffic is the most important thing. When choosing a rental car, you should go for one with medium power. Otherwise, it may not make it up the hills. We had a Toyota Yaris 1500 Petrol Hybrid Automatic. It was ok. An automatic gearbox makes driving easier.Guest review byMarikaEstonia - 10.0
