Spiky Peaks and Spectacular Pistes

Characterised by Tyrolean chalets and spiky peaks, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Dolomites are a spectacular part of the Italian Alps. Some parts belonged to Austria, so German is widely spoken.

Site of several luxury Dolomites hotels on Booking.com is Cortina d’Ampezzo, a glamorous town with great après-ski and scenery that has starred in several films. To the east Auronzo di Cadore is by a tranquil lake, while Corvara is surrounded by stunning mountains. Nearby Ortisei and Selva offer fantastic skiing and rock climbing.

The riverside town of Bolzano (Bozen in German) is home to Ötzi the iceman, a 5000-year-old mummy found in the Alps above Merano, a ski resort with a castle and botanical gardens. Madonna di Campiglio in the Brenta Dolomites has access to over 150 km of ski runs, and one of the ‘vie ferrate’, hiking paths with steel handrails. Other Dolomites ski resorts are Arabba and Canazei, separated by the area’s highest pass.

Just south, Rocca Pietore is next to Marmolada, the tallest Dolomites mountain. Nearby Alleghe has a beautiful setting on a lake used for winter ice skating, while San Martino di Castrozza to the south-west has many Dolomites ski hotels near a range of pistes. The church spire of beautiful Belluno to the south-east creates a great photo opportunity against the backdrop of mountains.

    After six truly unforgettable days at the Adler Lodge Ritten, and I'm already dreaming of my return. From the moment I arrived, I was enveloped in a sense of tranquility and luxury that permeated every aspect of my stay. My room was an absolute haven, spacious and comfortable with breathtaking views overlooking the majestic Dolomites. The large bathroom, complete with a private sauna, was a welcome retreat after a day exploring the stunning surroundings. And the complimentary mini-bar was a delightful touch! Boredom was simply not an option at Adler Lodge. The daily activity program offered a fantastic array of complimentary options, from invigorating hikes and yoga sessions to thrilling mountain e-biking excursions. I even had the unique opportunity to trek with llamas and alpacas (for a small extra fee), an experience I'll cherish forever. The heated pool, with its panoramic views of the Dolomites, provided the perfect setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. I also indulged in the spa treatments, and the massages were so exceptional that I booked two more during my stay. The culinary experience at Adler Lodge deserves special mention. From the bountiful breakfasts and satisfying lunches to the delightful aperitivo and exquisite fine dining dinners, every meal was a celebration of regional and seasonal cuisine. The pasta dishes were some of the best I've ever tasted, and the free-flowing Italian wine perfectly complemented each meal. But the true cherry on top was the exceptional staff. Every single member of the team went above and beyond to ensure that I felt welcomed, pampered, and completely taken care of. Their warmth and attentiveness truly elevated my experience from wonderful to extraordinary. If you're seeking an escape to a place of unparalleled beauty and tranquility, I wholeheartedly recommend the Adler Lodge Ritten.     Cozy apartment equipment with everything you need. Comfortable beds, well organized, nice and clean little kitchen and bathroom. Balcony with relaxing chairs. 5 feet deep heated pool with little pool corner for young ones and another relaxing bubble therapy pool and jacuza Sauna. Pool can access under tunnel connect to the each building it’s very convenient. Elevator and available restaurant, prices not so high. Kids play room inside the building and big kid play area outside and picnic area BBQ area, volleyball field for adults. Dogs area. So many attractions 30 minutes near by. Definitely recommend.

    We have been in Alpenschlössl in December 2022. Very clean, good spa area with attentive personnel. This part of hotel is great for people who wants to have more calm atmosphere than in the main building. By the way very good quality of manicure, a that is rare to find. Takes time but worth it 100%. Cool bar with view, a cocktails and intertainment. I have forgotten my belongings in the room and they were sent directly home. Service was great!

    The city is incredibly charming, with a vibe that feels much more Austrian than Italian. It’s also surrounded by plenty of beautiful hikes (which I wish I’d had time to do!). I only stayed for two days, and while one day is enough to see the city itself, the real highlight is exploring the trails and nature nearby. The food is distinctly Austrian, hearty and delicious, and the bakeries are absolutely fantastic.

    Cortina is a good central location to use as a base for...

    Cortina is a good central location to use as a base for attractions in the region. It is known as quite an exclusive resort but we didn't find food and restaurant prices any higher that other Dolomite resorts. It is busy with lots of traffic which flows through the centre of the town. There are much prettier and quieter holiday towns and villages - especially in the Val Gardena area.

    This is a relatively small town and so easily walkable with lots of really nice local bakers, and shops selling cheese, wine, speck and chocolate - plus the usual supermarkets, pharmacies and places where you can get all your hiking and walking gear. Try strolling along all the narrow streets that lead off the main square to see what's there. A really pleasant and slightly longer walk to take is by following the path along the river to the nearby Neustift/Novacella Abbey where you can try the excellent wine they make there (the local grape varieties are Kerner and Sylvaner) and cheese.

    The town is the perfect location to explore the Dolomites. Hotels and Apartments are plentiful and in every price level. You can choose from so many hikes (all different levels) you can fill 3 weeks. Depending what other locations are on your itinerary, 3 days allow you to see the highlights and get a sense of the beauty of the Dolomites. Yet, it's easy to fill a week. Summer like winter.

    Nice and clean apartment. Even we only had contact with the host via the chat, the host was very helpful though. The location of apartment was perfect. It's located in the city center. We love the view outside the living room. Parking was 15 euro per night, it's very nearby apartment. We had a lovely stay at Casa Fellin.

    Because of the two gondolas accessible in town, we were able to explore both sides and experience a variety of terrain, none extremely challenging which worked for our various fitness levels. The views are stupendous and the convenience of the huts along the trails for lunch, a drink or even a break from the rain were fantastic. We didn't need to worry about packing snacks or lunches, and instead enjoyed reasonably priced, delicious meals along our hikes.

    Canazei is located at the southern part of the Sella Ronda...

    Canazei is located at the southern part of the Sella Ronda domain and you need to take a couple of lifts up to the slopes. There are also buses to get to different parts of the domains, and though they run regularly their frequency changes. Apres-ski life is more on the quiet side in Canazei and while there are a lot of restaurants in the village, we didn't find anything the marked us. There's a great (but pricey) swimming pool and wellness center and shops are OK for such a village.

The resort itself is quite upmarket, the shops and restaurants were relatively expensive compared to other Italian resorts. Our restaurant experiences were not especially good in the town. Up the mountain, although the catering was good value, the quality of the food was not great, although better and a lot cheaper than you might find in France up the mountain. The resort is in the Dolomites, although not on the Sella Ronda, and the scenery is breath-taking. Overall, it's a very good ski area and ski resort, and I would definitely return.

    We really enjoyed our stay in this holiday house!

    We really enjoyed our stay in this holiday house! Great location – very close to the cable cars that take you to Seceda and Monte Pana in the beautiful Dolomites. The area is peaceful and scenic, perfect for a relaxing getaway. The hosts were very kind, welcomed us with gifts, and gave us great tips on what to see and do nearby. The house had everything we needed: brand-new beds, super comfortable mattresses, and the host kindly provided lower pillows upon request. Everything was very clean and well maintained. We stayed on the ground floor – although the weather was rainy, it was always warm inside thanks to the heating. A perfect place for both active holidays and peaceful rest – highly recommended!

    Kronplatz is everyone's favorite skiing destination.

    Kronplatz is everyone's favorite skiing destination. Many slopes of varying difficulty. Something for everyone. All are very well groomed every single night. Lifts are refreshed / replaced by newer at extreme rates. Parking at the bottom station of the gondola is the best that you will ever experience and the price is quite affordable.
