The island is amazing with very few tourists even during the peak season. I wish we could have stayed longer and would definetely stay here again!

IrelandThough it's not super-modern inside, I found the atmosphere of the place very congenial. This was added to by the kindliness of the lady that I dealt with, Ana, who went out of her way to be helpful. And the cat.
There is a small swimming spot just a few metres away.

From making sure the apartment was perfectly prepared for our stay to introducing us to the authentic local lifestyle, they made our trip unforgettable. They resolved every minor issue we had during our stay very quickly. The apartment itself was spotless and very well equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare dinner for five people. You can also use the barbecue in the garden to cook and enjoy meals outside. They even treated us to their amazing homemade olive oil and pelin (a delicious local alcoholic drink). All facilities are within walking distance and the house is near Pomena Luke (harbour) where you can rent bikes, scooters etc etc, also the supermarket is 5 houses down the road. Enough choice in all kind of restaurants. The accomodation has clean rooms and bathrooms and all is well taken care of. The airconditioner take care of the heat in the room. The hosts are very friendly and helpfull and both speak very good English so no ned to worry if you can't speak Hrvatsku. Our host, Kate, is very kind and helpful, we really liked her! The location of the apartment is beautiful and quiet, you can see the open sea during the day and the many stars at night. A nice little beach is a few minutes walk away. The view is great, everything in the apartment is very clean and comfortable. The national park is beautiful and peaceful.
The national park is beautiful and peaceful. You can swim in the lakes within the park which have an outlet to the ocean so they are salt water. The park is ideal for cycling and walking; electric bikes being particularly popular and easy to hire. Pomena is right by the entrance to the park and boasts some good restaurants with lovely views over the harbour. There isn’t a lot going on in polace but a good place to have as a base for the national park. It’s very quiet and peaceful with a handful of restaurants which were fully booked and very expensive apart from one we found right next to where we were staying. It was set back from the edge of the sea and had Astro turf where the small amount of table and chairs were. Very reasonably priced with a good choice and nice friendly owners. There is also a small supermarket, bakery, ATM machine, 2 bike hire places and a kiosk to buy tickets to the national park and an information centre. It is an old port with some historical buildings but If you’re looking for a more modern vibrant place then pomena would be the better choice.Guest review byAnnetteUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Laid-back (nightly entertainment is watching the sunset) and small but has what you need (except for the grocery store being seasonal). The park entrance is in town and the path leads directly to the salt lakes, I loved going early in the morning and having the place to myself. FYI - The tours start coming 9-10ish. Restaurants: Melody opens at 7am, takes cards, and is run by a lovely family serving good food. Croatian coastal prices are not cheap (I have been to Rovinj, Korcula, & Dubrovnik), any meal will be at least 12+ euro. Bring cash as well as credit cards.Guest review byjim annUnited States - 10.0

The place we stayed there in Saplunara was a bit far from most of the "tourist" things to do on the island, but we weren't there for sightseeing necessarily so it wasn't a problem for us. The "things to do" on the island (like the National Park, St. Mary's Island, the Roman ruins) weren't difficult to get to because we had our own car. What we loved the most was how quiet it was and that there were very few people there. We almost felt like we had the island to ourselves at times, which is fabulous! Obviously, our stay was just outside of the normal tourist season, so not many things were open and the beaches weren't quite cleaned up, but there was a grocery store open, which was helpful. We ate most of our meals in our apartment. One of our favorite things was finding a hidden beach and enjoying it all to ourselves.Guest review bycwenglandUnited States - 10.0

It's a small village that doesn't offer anything apart from a grocery store and a pub/pizzeria, but the position is quite strategic as it's in a central position on the island and from here you can easily reach every corner of it in less than 30 minutes by car. Okuklje is small serene town. It is very peaceful. It have three restaurants, one mini market and one small local products shop. Prices in mini market are slightly higher then in regular stores on main road in Mljet. You can swim anywhere in this little place but I would recommend "natural beach" - it is situated on eastern side of the bay. This bay is perfect for SUP board and snorkeling. I would highly recommend a walk (hike) to Prožurska Luka. It last for about half an hour/forty minutes in one way but it it is quite lovely. This place have mini open-library on bus station. Nice place, however I prefer other places like Saplunara for instance cause it is not so crowded. Great hosts in apartements Angelo, perfect food in local restaurants, Gundulište and Stella Maris. Easy to approach Veliko and Malo jezero. Great massage in Pomena. I have to take my car to the mechanic. There was a great one, Ivan from Babino polje, half an hour away from Polače. Great location to base yourself for visiting Mljet NP.
Great location to base yourself for visiting Mljet NP. Lots of opportunities for watersports (on sea and lakes), hiking and cycling, and swimming both in sea and lakes. Ferries to and from were full so good job we booked in advance. Some lovely restaurants (be warned some are cash only) - with those to the north of the bay having great sunset views. Everything about our stay was perfect from the wonderful location overlooking the sea.. a tranquil cove, to the beautifully furnished, spacious apartment with everything you could need in it .
