An exceptional hotel. The breakfast is wonderful and varied. The hotel is located right on the sea—just like its name suggests. From the dining room, which opens to the sea, you go down three steps and enter the hotel’s private beach. The hotel gives off a warm, homey feeling. Anne a Mare apartments exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the impeccable cleanliness the modern and luxury appeal that permeated every corner of this establishment. The rooms were an absolute delight – not only were they spacious and tastefully decorated, but they were also spotless. Modern rooms with kitchenette and a huge TV, toilet and shower rooms are separate which makes the showering even more enjoyable. The pool area was another highlight of my stay. It was maintained with the utmost care. The pool looks luxurious with modern sunbeds and sun shades and a pool bar next to it so you can enjoy your drink while taking a dip. However, what truly sets this hotel apart is the warm and welcoming owner. Their genuine passion for hospitality was evident in every interaction. They went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was enjoyable, having a drink with us talking about local restaurants and things to see in the area, offering late check out, inviting us to use the pool even when we checked out and making us feel welcomed throughout our stay. Lastly, the location of this hotel is also excellent. Nestled at the entrance of Afitos it allows easy access to the city and the lovely beaches in the vicinity although i am sure spending a day or two at the pool relaxing is an excellent option as well. In conclusion, my experience at this summer hotel in Afitos was nothing short of exceptional. The unwavering commitment to cleanliness, the inviting pool area, the gracious owner, and the excellent location all contributed to a truly memorable stay. I can't wait to return at this hidden gem of a hotel.

Mainland Greece at its Best

A 3-pronged peninsula to the south-east of Thessaloniki, Halkidiki is best known for its rolling scenery, beautiful beaches and good watersports.

The westernmost prong is the lively Kassandra peninsula. Sani on its west coast is backed by a pine forest and has beautiful sunsets. On the opposite side, Pefkohori’s fantastic beach and calm, shallow waters make it a popular choice for families. Polichrono and Kalithea to the north have a good selection of Halkidiki hotels on the beach, while Afitos has a picturesque Old Town with cobbled streets.

On the quieter Sithonia peninsula, Metamorfosi is a small village with a Blue Flag beach, while Neos Marmaras has a pretty harbour offering boat trips. On the eastern side Vourvourou is very popular and has lovely views of the offshore islands.

An island just off the Mount Athos peninsula is Amolianí which has rocky coastline and wonderful beaches. Across the water is Ouranoupoli whose small fishing harbour is guarded by a 14th-century tower. On the main part of the Halkidiki region, Stavros and Olympiada both sweep around picturesque bays dominated by the lush Cholomontas mountains.

    After some delays on our journey to Ammouda Villas, we arrived very late at night. Even though it was much later than our stated arrival time, Giannis was there to greet us with warmth and a smile. We woke up to a stunning view of the beach and the Aegean Sea beyond. The property is unlike anywhere else we have stayed in Halkidiki. The conscientious planning of the grounds by a landscape architect makes for a natural sanctuary, so much so that we barely left the property during our stay, a first for us. The property thrums with bees, birds and butterflies. Well placed hammocks, recliners, and loungers invite you to relax. The beach is directly across from the villa. A road cuts through in between, but a zebra crossing joins the property to the beach and, in May at least, the road is very quiet. We felt safe leaving our 9 year old to come back and forth on his own. Ammouda Villas has it's own private beach complete with umbrellas, sun loungers and outdoor shaded lounges. Beach towels were supplied. One of the features that makes this place stand out from the rest is its supply of activities free for guests. Bicycles, quistax, kayaks, paddle board, an outdoor basketball area (complete with fully inflated basketballs), table tennis and a foosball table are all in excellent condition; there is always something to do. There is even an edible garden with delicious organic food that is for the guests to use as they wish. The villa itself is just like the photographs. We stayed elsewhere in Halkadiki two weeks prior to Ammouda Villas. Both look lovely in the photos, but the first place was like many we have stayed at in the region, cheaply finished with some fixtures needing repair and not that comfortable to stay in. Ammouda Villas is not one of these places. It feels very well made, with good finishings and is very comfortable. The place is spotless and everything works as it should. The grounds staff all are very friendly and Giannis is an incredible host!

They clean the rooms everyday and change the sheets every 3rd day, so cleanliness is great The property is right front of Gerakinis beach. It is a shallow, non-commercial and a calm beach. Staying here, we could easily commute to other villages and beaches. Highly recommended:)

    Nikiti is an ideal town for families with children, especially those aged 1–12. Everything is within walking distance. The beach and sea are perfect for kids, and the restaurants are family-friendly. There are also toy machines for children to play with. However, it might be a bit boring for young couples without kids, as there aren’t many entertainment options such as night clubs or disco bars.

    The place is suitable if you are visiting Greece on budget. It is very crowded and it s a nightmare to find a parking spot. We visited few traditional tavernas( Ouzeri Las Pas,Villa Ella ( has live music) and had very tasty greek dishes :tzatziki , Greek salad, fried zuchini, fried white bait, aubergine salad, grilled sardines, stuffed peppers, chicken souvlaki. The prices are reasonable.

    A wonderful place right on the shore of the azure Aegean Sea! Our host Ivan was exceptional – always ready to help with advice or organize a restaurant reservation, yet discreet and unobtrusive enough to make us feel completely independent, just like at home. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a fruit basket – a kind gesture from the host. The cleanliness and order of the place immediately stood out. It is truly an oasis of peace and enjoyment by the sea. The water is crystal clear, and the beach is beautiful, lively, and full of different attractions. Evenings in Kallithea offer a wide variety of restaurants, bars, and clubs where you can have a wonderful time. Thanks to this place and our host Ivan, we had a truly amazing and unforgettable holiday!

    After spending 10 days I am sure about I will never go back...

    After spending 10 days I am sure about I will never go back to Neos Marmaras. Very noisy and crowded beaches, a lot of people during the night shopping. We went to Platanitsi Wild Beach on daily basis (50km from Neos Marmaras) to avoid this nightmare.

    Polychrono is a small town with an excellent promenade and sunset views. There is a large choice of tavernas and restaurants. In the evening it is bustling with shops, bars and children's activities. There's a really good variety of shops for browsing.

    This is a beautiful town and the people there are very friendly and will to help where is possible. To get the best experience while visiting it would be advisable to rent a car as there are some amazing beaches in the surrounding areas that are not accessible unless you take a taxi or rent a car

    Decent place to swim and sunbathe, although among the dirtiest I've seen in Greece. The dirt in the sand is never collected, and people vacationing here are not among the most educated, considering the very low prices. It's weird that not even private beach owners (renters?) bother to clean up the sand at their location. The city is always full of cars, and more seem to be coming every minute. I have never seen so many people driving around such a small place in so many cars. The good news is that all the streets are one way, although you'll see a lot of cars going the wrong way, so be careful, especially at the intersections. Also, there is no genuine Greek taverns in the area, only fast food restaurants. This is literally a food industry, with all restaurants craming tables one on top of another to seat as many customers as possible for the shortest amount of time possible. You can eat good food if you follow Google Maps ratings, but don't expect an authentic experience. It's just business. On the plus side, the restaurants are among the cheapest in Greece, which might explain the kind of people vacationing here and their habits (throwing garbage right next to them, never considering the bins nearby).

    Sarti is a lively tourist destination, but it can feel crowded and noisy, especially for families with young children. There are plenty of attractions for kids, such as toy stands, small rides, and rental cars designed for children, which can be fun but also create constant distractions. However, the lack of pedestrian zones and proper sidewalks makes walking around less safe and comfortable.

    Nice beaches nearby (we explore them by Paddle board but there are also 600 boats to rent for a day trip). The city beach is not blue water and seems more like a lake, but there are many other possibilities at the place.
