FAQs about hotels on Crete
Centuries of History, Days of Sunshine
The largest Greek island, mountainous Crete has stunning beaches, plenty of history and as much or little nightlife as you want. Party town Malia has many bars, clubs and restaurants on its Strip.
Along the coast is the capital Heraklion, a bustling city home to many Crete hotels on the beach, and a Venetian castle guarding its port. Its archaeological museum includes finds from the island’s Minoan era, while just inland are the Roman remains of Knossos.
Also boasting a Venetian castle is Rethymnon, a popular resort with a good number of Crete hotels with private pools on Booking.com. Loggerhead turtles nest in season on the sandy beaches here and at Chania, an important port with an attractive waterfront set against the backdrop of mountains.
On the other side of the island is Aghios Nikolaos, a small fishing town with a picturesque harbour. Just north is Elounda, a popular family resort, and offshore is Spinaloga island, inspiration behind the book ‘The Island’. Matala in the south has a bohemian vibe and intriguing cliff dwellings, while Paleokastro in the east borders Europe’s largest palm forest at Vai.
We could go on and on about magnificent Crete beaches, but whichever resort you choose, you can be almost guaranteed fantastic food and a good helping of sunshine.

- From £291.64 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,039 reviewsEverything!!!😍 To be honest places like this are over our budget,so we saved money for this trip for a while and was a bit concerned if we choose a good accomodation to put our trust in because we did not know the place. But booking this place was the best choice we could make! The hotel itself is really new, clear and elegant from the inside and outside as well. There are many pools so you do not feel the crowd (sometimes we were alone in a whole pool). The beach is literally just around the corner so we were able to spend our whole day there while our room was just few steps away from it. At the beach there were king size beds with baldachin and sunbeds too. There were a toilet and a beach bar nearby to fulfill all of yours needs! Our room was small but it was perfect for us (2 people) and it was well-equipped, we had everything we needed. There was fresh bottled water provided daily and the cleaning ladies did a perfect job! Despite the fact we brought lots of sands in they made our room perfectly clean every single day, huge thank you for them from here as well! Also the rest of the staff were extremly kind, helpful, cheerful and just made our days always :) Thank you as well, I hope my words get back to you, because you are doing an amazing job! We also tried massage here. The hotel provides you a 10 minute free massage and we also add some extra minutes. It was also amazing, we felt incredibly relaxed and calm after it. I definitely recommend you to try it once you are there. We also recieved one romantic dinner next to the beach in the hotel's fine dining restaurant from the hotel. It was an amazing night with a perfect view and incredible dishes! And in the end I would like to emphasize the amazing quality and quantity of food! Everything was freshly made, we had lots of choices and our favourites could be found every day but they also add new dishes to the breakfast and dinner too, so you just could not get bored of it!Guest review byOrsolyaHungary

The luxurious feeling we got when we arrived was unforgettable. From the moment we arrived to the end. The staff was amazing, the service was on point. It was so clean and wonderful! A special thank you to Arona who made us feel like home in our room. She made sure that our room always was tidy and lovely. She came in with a very positive energy and did everything she could to make us feel very comfortable in our room! And thank you to all the staff at Abaton for doing our stay here the best vacation ever! We will definitely come back! We recommend the room with sharing pool or private pool. The privacy you get if you don’t want to be disturbed. Everything was perfect thankyou.Guest review byVjosaNorway
- From £151.20 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 957 reviewsWonderful hotel in the Chania. It provides everything I need. The room was clean and modern. Very comfort bed. There were cosmetics in a bathroom (shampoo, shower gel, conditioner for hair, shower gel), hair dryer, enough towels. Also some fruits and snacks were provided, even raki (traditional greek alcohol) for free. Also there were snacks and drinks in a fridge possible to buy. TV and air conditioner in the room. Breakfast was included, it is enough food to chose. There are also a bar in a hotel that open till late evening. Also the swimming pool, that you can use even after check-out. Before our stay I communicated with the staff and they were great at getting things organized with quick turnarounds. They ALL speak English and are happy to help. We did a last minute car rental, available on site. Gorgeous vehicle and so convenient. The restaurant was amazing! Definitely a 5 star, great food options. Everything we ate was delicious and well made. Service was excellent. Dessert was devine! The views were excellent from our patio AND the restaurant. ..... highly recommend this place!!!Guest review byEstherMexico

Whether if you're a history buff or looking for an instagram...
Whether if you're a history buff or looking for an instagram-able location for your next selfie, the Old Town and adjacent Venetian Harbour are fascinating to walk around. The area is full of great photo opportunities around every corner, as well as cool little shops and restaurants scattered throughout. The more modern shopping precinct of Chania is in the centre with everything you may need during your visit. Public transport is cheap and reliable although car hire shops abound if you prefer to drive yourself. There are tour companies available if you want to go sight-seeing and let someone else do the driving. Make sure you visit the Archaeological Museum during your stay to learn the history of human habitation on Crete. Chania is a great spot to base yourself for travel in the north-west region of Crete. There are so many places to visit that are within a day's drive from Chania. Chania is a must-do location to visit when you come to Crete.Guest review byPriscillaAustralia - 10.0

Amazing Resort and extensive facilities on site.
Amazing Resort and extensive facilities on site. Staff are amazing. Also one of the best mani/pedi I ever had at the salon. Resort is about 30 minutes from airport, and would say for a 5* Europe resort, this lives up to expectation, but don't compare to a 5* Caribbean or Mexico Resort, so bear that in mind. We stayed at the Ocean view room which had spectacular views. The Rocky beach was just fantastic with the lounges and beds, and considering how busy this resort is, never noticed it and never felt overcrowded, and you never had to reserve benches or lounges by the beach or pool, there was more than enough to go round and even more spare. A la Carte restaurants that were amazing and my favourites are Umi (Sushi), Azzuro (Italian), Thalassa for breakfast & lunch, Poseidon. A real let down of the restaurants was Nami, only delicious items were the Starters. Staff at this resort were fantastic overall, but special thanks to the following: Anastasi, Konstantina, Angelina, Ritsa and Lucas.Guest review byBandeleUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Best place to stay when in Crete if you are looking for a mix of relaxation at the beach and exploring the island. Great sandy beaches, cool beach bars, beautiful old town filled with vibrant clubs and restaurants. The town is ideally placed so that you can rent a car, pay for an excursion or even use public transport (which is beautufly organised) to explore wild beaches but Chania and Heraklion as well.Guest review byMiljanSerbia - 10.0

Agios Nikolaos is well worth a visit, this being our second time here after a day trip last year. This year we stopped here for 2 nights at the end of a tour around the island. We could probably have stayed for another night, 2 more at the most. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to visit, both during the day and night. Shops are great and beaches within 5 min walk or drive.Guest review byLeeUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Kissamos offered us a wonderful mix of relaxation and local charm. The nightlife was a pleasant surprise, with cozy bars and lively tavernas where we enjoyed delicious food and drinks. Evening walks through the town square and the nearby streets filled with local shops and traditional products were some of the highlights of our stay. It's a great place for couples looking for a laid-back yet authentic Cretan experience.Guest review byKonstantinosGreece - 8.0

Difficult to judge because we came early in the season when there was a cold wind blowing and not all the places were open. However, there didn't seem to be many places to eat [not a problem for us as there was one excellent place, though would be a problem peak season] . There were a number of apparently abandoned and ill-maintained buildings, which made the place appear less attractive.Guest review byAMELIAUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A very good base for very many superb beaches in southern Crete, with a nice beach within the town, some great shops and very good eating options both within the town and the surrounding villages. Not spoiled by mass tourism as many other places in the island, yet neither too remote and hard to reach. Just perfect.Guest review byANGELIKIGreece
