FAQs about hotels in Wales
Land of the Hills and the Dales
A land of magnificent mountains, centuries-old castles and beautiful beaches, Wales is steeped in proud tradition. A centre of culture, its elegant capital Cardiff houses some of the 5-star hotels in Wales on Booking.com.
Swansea has several Wales hotels with swimming pools and is the gateway to the tranquil Gower Peninsula. It was also the birthplace of Dylan Thomas, whose famous boathouse is in Laugharne near the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
Within this park are St Davids, the UK’s smallest city, and the colourful South Wales beach resort of Tenby. Other beach resorts include the university town of Aberystwyth, Barmouth and Prestatyn with its Blue-Flag beach. Popular Llandudno has a long pier sheltered by a headland.
Also with a pier is Bangor, opposite Anglesey - a rugged island known for wildlife. It looks back towards Snowdonia National Park, whose changing landscapes encompass Wales’ tallest mountain. Within the park are serene Bala Lake and Betws-y-Coed whose fast-flowing river becomes the Swallow Falls.
The Brecon Beacons house more lush peaks, while Chepstow to the south-east has a racecourse and riverfront Norman castle. Other fantastic Wales castles are in Conwy, Harlech and Caernarfon – possibly the best of them all.
Wrexham is the largest North Wales town with great nightlife, while nearby Llangollen is best known as for its International Eisteddfod.

- From US$295.38 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 860 reviewsChateau Rhianfa is an absolute gem of a hotel. It's perched over the Menai Straight with stunning views of the Snowdonia Mountains. There were several sumptuous yet comfortable lounges to enjoy. Our room was very large and beautifully decorated. The bed was big and comfortable with very nice linens. We had a shower instead of a bath, but it was a nice one with high quality toiletries and big fluffy towels. The staff was delightful and attentive. We had dinner at the chateau, and while the dining room was rather cold the food was very tasty and reasonably priced. Breakfast was delicious. We're by nature very casual people, but even though we were staying in a fairy tale castle we felt comfortable and very welcomed. We'd love to come back sometime for a longer stay so we can explore the area a bit more. We'd also love to see the gardens during the summer; the place must be spectacular then.Guest review byArtemisIreland

Cardiff Bay is lovely a great regeneration project, although there is quite a lot more building going on. Cardiff Castle is well worth a visit. Local buses and trains are excellent. St Fagans is well worth the bus trip, we could really have done with having 2 days there to look round, and it's FREE!Guest review byPrice - 8.0
Good flat clean promenade, easy for walking.
Good flat clean promenade, easy for walking. Plenty of nearby places to go, e.g. Rhos-on-Sea Conwy. The town is within easy reach and the small museum very interesting. The tram to the top of the Gt. Orme an attraction not to be missed. Always a pleasure visiting Llandudno, but found it difficult finding a suitable restaurant to have an evening meal. We did eat out at Conwy and Deganwy. Easier to find suitable eating places here to suit our tastes.Guest review byVivianUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A nice place with an excellent shopping centre.
A nice place with an excellent shopping centre. Disappointed with the lack of green areas in the centre. People, including shop staff, were very nice and helpful. However it was difficult to find somewhere to eat what we like (traditional English meals). Ended up with tasteless junk takeaway. We did not bring transport but did not need to go anywhere that was not walkable, other than we would have liked to have found a suitable eatery nearer the city centre, because we have a dog and even if allowed, he does not travel well on buses. We are not a young couple and it looked like there was little for us to do in the evenings.Guest review byTomUnited Kingdom - 8.0
I liked the town, the castle, and promenade.
I liked the town, the castle, and promenade. We had a lovely walk through the town! Research where to eat. We had fish and chips on the pier very dry and tasted lick cardboard. And went for a pizza at a pizza cafe it was terrible. But on the whole we enjoyed our stay!Guest review bySargant Mladezic - 8.0
Pretty Village focused around a railway station within a...
Pretty Village focused around a railway station within a steep sided valley. Several camping / outdoor shops but don't expect bargains as the prices are similar or even slightly higher than elsewhere due to the "captive audience" of people in the area to enjoy the outdoors. Many eating out options, most of which are also hotels and offer broadly similar menus of "pub grub" / "grill" type food. Also a very popular Indian restaurant and a couple of Pizza places, and one Tapas. The Chinese was closed when we visited. If you prefer to self cater there is a Spar and a Londis with a decent bakery within the Spar. We visited at the end of the school holiday season and we thought all the food places were surprisingly quiet except the Pizza place in the station, the curry house and the Royal Oak hotel. There also didn't seem to be any sign of "nightlife" to speak of, even on Friday night (maybe people are too tired after outdoor activities?). Some establishments only opened Friday and Saturday nights. Its a good base for the area being at the junction of two main road routes. You can also walk straight out of the village with several way marked routes of varying difficulty, or just doing your own map reading. You can easily spend a day browsing the shops and cafes and taking in the pretty Pont-y-Pair and river rapids. However by day two, you will probably be ready to explore further.Guest review byBenjaminUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Barmouth felt too busy on arrival.
Barmouth felt too busy on arrival. The train was overheated and very crowded for the journey back to Shrewsbury. That destroyed a perhaps-naive hope that it would be an idyllic chance to view Wales. The Last Inn does not understand customer relations: poor service, sticky tables and dodgy wine is a disappointing last impression.Guest review byBrianUnited Kingdom
