FAQs about hotels in Cotswolds
The Quaint Heart of England
One of England’s most quaint areas, the Cotswolds are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with rolling hills interspersed by picturesque villages with limestone buildings.
From Cirencester to Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold to Stroud, the laidback lifestyle makes this area a great choice for an escape to the country. Booking.com has some fabulous accommodation and, of our range of Cotswolds hotels, luxury and budget alternatives are covered in equal measure.
The largest place is Cheltenham, a wonderful Regency spa town. Neighbouring Gloucester has some well-preserved medieval buildings and an impressive cathedral. Some of the most photographed medieval Cotswolds sights are the Arlington Row almshouses in Bibury. To the east beautiful Burford has a high street going up a hill, Burford Priory country house and the large Cotswolds Wildlife Park just south.
More feathered friends are found in Birdland Park at Bourton-on-the-Water, a lovely village with low bridges spanning its river. Forming a triangle with it are Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Norton, whose former mill and almshouses are worth a look. Broadway to the north-west has a main street in the shade of hills, one of which has a tower from where it’s said you can see 13 English counties!

- From £202 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very good - What previous guests thought, 292 reviewsYoung couple visiting Cotswolds for the first time . Absolutely outstanding hotel grounds! We could not believe the size of the place. We were delighted with the service of the staff they all worked hard , were attentive and the place was beautifully decorated and clean . Room was clean , spacious and cosy . Main house we really enjoyed exploring particularly the reception and billiard room! The spa was excellent with immaculate changing rooms . We went at a quiet time so had full use of the jacuzzis. Just what you need on a cold dry night. Dressing gowns in the rooms which were perfect if you took a chilly walk there. The food was delicious and plenty of options. We opted to have 3 courses at the travelling duke for 2 nights for only £25pp including steak ! We hope we can come back for a meal at the Brassiere as this was booked up every night. The value for the location, room, food, spa and hotel entertainment services was excellent. Didn’t use the golf course but it was appealing. Lots of activities to do too when you are there. The location was perfect and only a short drive to Chipping Norton and into other towns. Surprised it didn’t attract a younger crowd but we can’t wait to come back!Guest review byemmaUnited Kingdom

When we checked in the process of smooth easy and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Throughout our stay the room was perfect the breakfast the meals the bar the spa and especially the staff just excellent I would fully recommend staying at this place and I will definitely be staying again. The staff just always seems to do that little bit extra was so friendly and knowledgeable about the area giving us advice. We were traveling with our dog and it always seem that they made an extra effort to make him feel special as well. I could give six stars rather than five I wouldGuest review byMattyGuernsey

The staff are courteous, efficient and accommodating. The hotel is visually beautiful with the architecture and design. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast and dinner in the restaurant are always delicious. And there is nothing better than a glass of wine in front of the fire at the end of the day....or in the courtyard, weather permitting!!! Perfection at the Dial House.Guest review byReGinaUnited States
- From £383 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 448 reviewsStunning hotel - the design of the rooms and the main areas is exquisite, everything is thought through. The restaurant and cocktail bar are great, breakfast was very good as well. The spa is lovely and the working hours are quite long but try to book the treatments in advance as it gets busy. You can also walk around beautiful lake, river and the forest located at the hotel grounds. In short, it's a gorgeous hotel - you won't be disappointed.Guest review byNadyaMontenegro

The room, the aesthetics, the dinner/breakfast, the personnel's genuine politeness and willingness to fulfil every request, the amenities of the hotel, the location of the hotel, just to name a few. Words or pictures don't do justice to the whole experience. You must visit the hotel in order to find out its magic!Guest review byKONSTANTINOSGreece

I find it really tacky when people take smartphone pictures of their dinner in a restaurant but I made sure no one was looking at me when I did just that because my dinner looked just superb and tasted equally great. Service was also perfect. This is a hotel I would highly recommend!!Guest review bySergeGermany

The Old Courthouse Pub - go upstairs to see the old courtroom (available for event hire) and the toilets used to be the prisoners' cells (& rumoured to be haunted!). The Turkish Kitchen - great food, good value & very peasant staff.Guest review byMike ChagouriUnited Kingdom - 8.0
The history and buildings were really interesting.
The history and buildings were really interesting. Plenty of shops and cafes within easy walking distance. Museums, amphitheatre and art galleries were great. Friendly people and the tourist information was a hit. Wish we had more time to visit the park. The Parish Church of St John Baptist and the Augustinian Abbey of St Mary and the grounds are well worth a visit.Guest review byTiger 32Australia - 10.0

We were in Bourton on the Water for 4 nights which was perfect for us. We walked to Lower & Upper Slaughters villages as well as Stow on the Wold and Naunton. We took the bus to Bibury. We enjoy walking long distances and the towns are connected via many footpaths and trails. The English countryside is beautiful. It was like being in a storybook with the fairytale villages. In Bourton on the Water we really enjoyed our meals at Venezia, The Croft, Dial House & The Willow. In Bibury we really enjoyed lunch at Eleven. And in Naunton we had a great lunch at The Black Horse Inn - which is the only restaurant in town.Guest review byMarcellaCanada - 10.0

It's a lovely village as has numerous nearby villages that are definitely worth visiting. We were looking to have a chat with locals in a pub and weren't disappointed. Everyone we met was friendly to us and we certainly enjoyed the various village pubs we visited. We particularly liked the Blue Boar in Chipping Norton (sitting outside basking in the sun) and Chequers at Churchill - great atmosphere with good food and service. Also close to Diddly Squat and Farmer's Dog which we visited and were lucky enough to meet Gerald at the Farm shop. We didn't go into the shop or the pub but as a visitor we enjoyed the alternate experiences available.Guest review bySandraAustralia - 10.0

Our stay in Stow-on-the-Wold was charming and peaceful – cobbled streets, cosy tea rooms, and friendly locals at every turn. We wandered through antique shops, enjoyed hearty pub meals, and soaked in the Cotswolds’ timeless beauty. The perfect blend of relaxation and little adventures. Oh, and the cocktails! 🍸 We’ll definitely be back.Guest review byJonnyUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Moreton on marsh is a beautiful town.
Moreton on marsh is a beautiful town. There’s a market there on Tuesdays. Great places to eat gorgeous fish and chip bar. The black bear Inn fantastic food. Bellini Italian restaurant fantastic. Stay away from the Thai restaurant (SIAM COTTAGE THAI) cold food which we waited 1 hr and 15 minutes for. Service below poor. Plus if you order soft drinks (J2O) they share the bottle between 2 glasses and charge for 2. We used go guide to see around the Cotswolds Elaine the guide was fabulous we visited many places Bourton on the water, Snowshill where Bridget Jones (first one) was filmed, chipping Campden, Cirencester - Bibury etcGuest review byBrendaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I believe Chipping Campden to be overall the best location in the Cotswolds. It has everything you need including pubs, a cocktail bar, restaurants, shops, a small mini-market, and the high street is picturesque and atmospheric. Just a lovely little town with great access to the rest of the Cotswolds. Da Luigi Italian restaurant is a particular find, with wonderful food and very friendly service.Guest review byRobertUnited Kingdom - 6.0
The Thames is stunning and worth a stroll along.
The Thames is stunning and worth a stroll along. Sit and watch the birds, fish, boats, dragonflies, and people enjoying themselves. The Rose Revived Public House and Restaurant is not for fine dining but you can have a wonderful meal and a lovely drink in nice surroundings. The willows and gardens are lovely. The waitresses like Ella are well trained and full of life.Guest review byNicholas
