FAQs about hotels in Galicia
Historic and Holy
A region of lush landscapes, countless coves and beautiful beaches, Galicia is the westernmost part of Spain. Long admired, it boasts incredible reminders of its first settlers – the Romans.
Lugo is the world’s only city entirely surrounded by Roman walls, and quite a sight they are. On a rocky promontory in A Coruña, the Tower of Hercules is a working Roman lighthouse. Considered the world’s oldest, it overlooks one of the region’s ‘rias altas’ – coastal inlets flanked by high cliffs.
Sheltered in another inlet is the port of Ferrol, and Viveiro around the coast has a lovely beach nestled below green hills. Another sandy beach protected by zig-zag cliffs is Ribadeo, on the Asturias border.
The most famous Galicia attraction is the capital Santiago de Compostela whose huge cathedral, firmly on the pilgrim route, is Christianity’s 3rd most important. Unsurprisingly, the city has the most 5-star Galicia hotels on Booking.com, though it’s smaller than Vigo which has a replica of the ship that reported America’s discovery.
The castle in nearby Baiona overlooks a beach, and Pontevedra slopes down to the sea. The undulating coastline continues to O Grove, known for beautiful beaches and hot springs. Thermal waters are also in Ourense, near the stunning Sil River Canyon in the hilly interior, home to most small hotels in Galicia.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 509 reviewsThe house was situated on some sort of island and contained everything you needed. On two sides there was water. Only 2 minute walk was the beach and we had a nice view over the water. It's tempting to say there are too many peregrines in Santiago and there are. But Santiago wouldn't be the same without them we visit Santiago every year as a chilling out restful end to our summer vacation in Vigo. We really enjoy Santiago and eat like kings in preparation to fly home. VIVA SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELLA !!!!!!Guest review byFERNANDO - 10.0
Vigo is very clean and open.
Vigo is very clean and open. City has good shopping and food. The area close to the water has a few streets that are used as urinals at night with a strong odor of urine. In other parts of the city it was very clean.Guest review byrobert - 10.0

I was pleased with my time in Arzua. I was tired.
I was pleased with my time in Arzua. I was tired. It was a long hard walk with a 40 lb pack on my back, so reaching Arzua and having a clean comfortable bed with a private bathroom and the promise of a hearty breakfast the next morning was a bonus. Also I learned that I could have someone courier my back pack to my next destination was a very welcome piece of news.Guest review byPamelaCanada - 10.0

Pretty city with lovely river walks and the old town was gorgeous. Beautiful churches and basilicas which were free to visit. The restaurants were excellent and a wide range of cuisines. It was a bit hectic driving around town and parking on the street was difficult. However, there were many inexpensive carparks available. The people were friendly and learning a little Spanish before visiting this region, will go a long way.Guest review byBelindaAustralia - 10.0

There was a good street market when we arrived around lunchtime. It was really difficult to find a place that would serve a meal in the early evening. Finally, we found Bar La Catedral Del Sabor, very near our hotel. The owners are lovely and we had a good meal there. They have a stamp for the Camino passport also. The bridge on the Camino, as it leaves Caldas da Reis, is very picturesque.Guest review byMaireIreland - 8.0

O Pedrouzo is a small town on the way to El Camino De Compostela. We only needed to stay one night and that was enough. I'm not sure if there were much to do in town. We tried two restaurants El Bule and Galaicos that serve traditional Galician food. Prices were fair and food was good.Guest review byJuan - 8.0

Beautiful views and clean beaches. Different coves to discover. Fabulous cake shops. Lovely restaurants . We stayed for 7 nights but felt that we could have moved on after 5. Very few people speak English here and there are some steep banks to negociate.Guest review byrobertUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lugo is a stunning city surrounded by Roman walls that you can walk along on top. It's architecture is similar to Santiago de Compostela but as it doesn't have as many visitors doing the Camino it is a much more comfortable city to walk around. Lovely shops and good vibe in the local bars. and good traditional Galician food in the local restaurants. It's a safe city away from the blistering summer heat that other southern Spanish cities have to endure. A real hidden gem.Guest review byElaineIreland
