Great view from the terrace, good breakfast and super nice staff, we were even allowed to store our luggage for two days without additional cost (and it was a lot of luggage!). Great location next to Carolina Park in a safe area with many good restaurants nearby. Very recommended!

We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel feels friendly and comfortable, with a beautiful design full of wood, which also nicely matches its name Maderanegra. The man working in the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. He explained many things to us, even checking the bus schedule. Our room was clean and medium-sized, with a practical wardrobe and plenty of hooks for clothes and bags. Breakfast was a simple but good start to the day (coffee, juice, cheese sandwich, fruit). Not a huge variety, but enough. Latacunga is a good base (much closer than from Quito) to visit Laguna Quilotoa (by cheap public bus from the terminal) and Cotopaxi Nationalpark (by tour).

Stepping into the historic district of Quito is like walking...

Stepping into the historic district of Quito is like walking into a living, breathing work of art. The narrow streets are alive with energy, and the sidewalks are a bustling stage for a constant parade of people. Every corner reveals breathtaking architecture and a symphony of sights and sounds, from the buzzing taxis to the high-quality live music🎶 Small cafeterias offer incredible meals, and the Desayuno Completo - Complete Breakfast is a true feast. It's easy to find fresh fruits, vegetables, and rich Ecuadorian chocolate. Around every corner, you'll find unique arts and crafts, and if you're lucky, a random pop-up parade will add to the magic. "Vibrant" doesn't even begin to cover it—Quito's historic district is a sensory explosion that you have to experience to believe.

I had a guide for hikes around Chimborazo.

I had a guide for hikes around Chimborazo. I was coming from sea level, so I was limited to less than 4000m for the first couple of days (and some people experience altitude symptoms at less than that). If I had stayed longer I could have done a couple interesting hikes on Chimborazo itself - I was fine after two days here.

I loved the restaurante in town. EL Mesón del Tren! The owners Lorena & Diego were attentive, friendly, and spent time with us during dinner. Lorena cooked for us a great meal as we requested! It's an old Spanish style restaurante that takes your breath away and the Food is incredible! Alausi can be a bit of a maze to drive around. But the second day, we were pro's!!!

Come to Riobamba if you want to climb/bike on Mt.

Come to Riobamba if you want to climb/bike on Mt. Chimborazo and/or visit the markets on Saturday. The downtown is interesting, worth a few hours, but does not cater to tourists. It is a city for Ecuadorians living their lives. The markets on Saturday are amazing. They are some of the most authentic, local markets we've visited. Very little for tourists, just real stuff for real Ecuadorians. If you are interested in climbing the mountain plan on time to get use to the altitude. Riobamba is a good base camp for a few days to begin this process.

It's a nice little town with a nice spirit . Hiking is great along the nariz del diablo train route - great views. Here you can also see a lot of indigenous ecuatorian people, especially on sundays at the indigenous market. If you want to sleep make sure you pick the right hotel because dogs and roosters are really loud here late at the night and early in the morning and many hotels have no soundproofing at all.

The only reason to stay here was to get an early bus to the Quilotoa loop. Walked round and there were zero attractions to visit. Even the churches were shut but that may have been due to the State of Emergency. Didn't eat out because I didn't see anywhere open I fancied eating in.
