The style is traditional, everything is impeccably maintained, and the entire place is spotless. The staff were exceptional, always greeting us with a smile and being incredibly helpful and accommodating. The food was delicious, the cocktails were perfect, and the breakfast, cakes, and other treats were outstanding. Our room was extremely comfortable and very quiet. Every piece of furniture and every detail had clearly been thoughtfully considered and was in perfect condition. They provided robes, slippers, shoehorns, an umbrella, and more. The welcome treats included fresh fruit, chocolates, and a little Eurovision-themed cake. In the evenings, they tidied the room for turndown service, closed the curtains, and neatly arranged our belongings. The corridors were carpeted with a thick central runner, which meant we never heard anyone passing by, even though the hotel was fully booked. We were also given a jar of hotel jam to take away with us and we can't wait to try it. If you’re considering this hotel and can afford the price tag, you will not be disappointed. Excellent mobility with clock precision of local transportation and unlimited free access to it for hotel guests visiting city. We stayed in Basel for a week, using it as a transit point for traveling to other cities in the area: Colmar, Luzerne, and Freiburg. Basel itself has easily enough to see for three full days: interesting museums, beautiful architecture, cathedrals, dining, etc. If you stay for more than a day you get a Basil Pass which allows you to use public transit for free. Basel has a mix of old buildings, many museums (~40), lots of interesting streets and alleyways as well as a full range of good quality shops and restaurants. Very enjoyable to walk along the tree lined paths along the Rhine too, where you can find numerous drink stalls and openings to restaurants.
