FAQs about hotels in Tasmania
Laidback Island of Incredible Landscapes
Perhaps most famous for the deceptively cute-looking Tasmanian devil, tranquil Tassie, as it’s affectionately known, boasts some of Australia’s most impressive landscapes.
Most 5-star Tasmanian hotels are in its historic capital Hobart, a beautiful city cascading down slopes towards the sea. Its highest points offer far-reaching views towards the bay’s lush islands and headlands. The furthest headland shelters Port Arthur, a former convict colony touted as Australia’s answer to Alcatraz.
Just outside the capital is Richmond, home of Australia’s oldest bridge. To the north-east is Swansea, across Great Oyster Bay from the Freycinet Peninsula, site of stunning Wineglass Bay.
Bicheno has a sweeping, sandy beach, while St Helens beach further north is protected by land outcrops that are birdlife havens. To its west Launceston features the large Queen Victoria Museum and beautiful Cataract Gorge. It is also the gateway to the north coast resorts where many cheap hotels in Tasmania are located and available to book on Booking.com.
One such resort is Devonport, the arrival point for ferries from Melbourne. Burnie also has a port, and is linked by a coastal road to Stanley whose narrow promontory ends in a rock called The Nut. South is wonderful Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, and to its west is the sleepy town of Strahan whose backdrop is the mountains covering south-western Tasmania.

The thing I like most about Hobart was that all of the attractions- beaches, marinas, good food, museums and botanic gardens, were within walkable distance. There were so many lovely parks and gardens, and my favorite of all; the number of significant buildings which have been restored and maintained and available for visitors to see. We mostly walked around Hobart, except for transport to and from the airport, and a drive to Mt Wellington.Guest review byMeredithAustralia - 10.0

Great town to visit - proximity to great landscapes such as Ben Lomond, Liffey Falls, Cradle Mountain and Strahan, nearby wine regions and of course Hobart, the south and west is just a couple of hours or so drive away. Beautiful town with its own great attractions - great place to chill and enjoy on foot, enjoy fantastic produce of all descriptions, and go to great restaurants both local and regional every day.Guest review byJohnAustralia - 10.0

The timing of our trip and very little crowd was the best part. Having pretty much Dove lake to ourselves was amazing. The weather was a bit so so but it’s was all prt of the experience. It’s an amazing, beautiful place. A must is to do the dove lake circuit and the Roony Creek to Dove lake. Walks are fairly easy and 80% on boardwalks. Marion’s lookout is a definite for next trip. Don’t forget to also do Devils @ cradle for amazing wildlife experienceGuest review byAshAustralia - 10.0

Stayed at Beachfront which was great value for money, central location, within walking distance to most attractions. We ate at Food & Brew for lunch & the iconic Lobster Shack for dinner, with some afternoon beers at the newly opened Bicheno Beer Co cellar door. The blowhole is a short walk or easily accessible by a short car drive. Beautiful seaside town with lots to offer, definitely recommend staying a night or two.Guest review byDamienAustralia - 10.0
Everything about St Helens was beautiful.
Everything about St Helens was beautiful. We really wish we could have stayed alot longer. We had breakfast at the The Lifebuoy Cafe which was awesome!!! Everyone absolutely loved the breakfast (5 stars) and excellent coffee. We also loved visiting the Bay of Fires and found this lovely beach "Squeaky Beach". This place is a must visit for people touring TasmaniaGuest review byMacdonald - 10.0

We have walked the Wineglass Bay route previously (recommend) and this time we decided to try the Pennicott cruise. The cruise was fantastic and I highly recommend. All crew members were great and the meal provided in the standard ticket was generous and delicious. The onboard drinks/snacks were also reasonably priced. We visited in June and we were lucky enough to see whales as well as seals on our journey. Freycinet Lodge was lovely for sundowners.Guest review byBeverleyAustralia - 8.0
Burnie has many worthwhile places to visit.
Burnie has many worthwhile places to visit. The beach and walk tracks are fantastic. WestPark Garden Centre and Secret Buddha Cafe are fabulous places to visit if you are a gardener, even for just a look. My favourite plave is Bunny Island, a traffic Island on the Bass Highway that has Black and Brown Bunnies. The best restaurant we have visited in Burnie is Uday Palace Indian Restaurant at 77 Mount street. One of the best Indian Restaurants we have ever been to in Australia.Guest review bySallyAustralia - 10.0
Strahan is beautiful.
Strahan is beautiful. Right on the Gordon river which is blue and lovely. You can cruise down the Gordon river or be pampered on the wilderness train ride. Walk along the river side and see the waterfall. Great meals at the pub. There is a visitors information shop who can give you a list of all restaurants in the area. It is a lovely place that you don’t want to leave. Near cradle mountain for scenic walkersGuest review byKathrynAustralia - 10.0
You need a full day.
You need a full day. The cruise is included in the entry and very informative. You can book various tours and take a walk around by yourself. For those with mobility problems a free buggy will take you to various sites. Some places have steps. There is a great cafe that sells hot or cold food and drinks a gift shop ad a dining room for nght time meals. There is a lovely Cafe and museum at the lunatic asylum along with restrooms. Make sure you have your camera ready as some beautiful birds throughout. Wear comfy shoes and be prepared for quick change in weather. overall it is a very great insight in the harsh conditions convicts endured. Enjoy.Guest review byCherylAustralia
