One of the best things that happened to me two years ago was stumbling into the Trofana Tyrol as a fallback guest after a long journey from southcentral Austria. The small hotels in the villages en route were full while the downtown ones in Innsbruck were either shut for the night or so expensive that I could not justify the expense for what would be an in-and-out stay. So I decided to sleep in my car at the next autobahn rest area. Much to my surprise this particular rest area happened to have a hotel, and they happened to have one room left on this busy August night. I took it with a degree of trepidation, as in America motorway rest areas are not known for anything but desperation stays. My fears seem to be confirmed on rolling my little suitcase through the Eni shop and into the darkened concourse. I crossed an aerial bridge atop that concourse also in darkness, and figured this was going to be a bad night but definitely better than sleeping in my car. But when I put my key into the large wooden door the wonderfully warm world of Austrian Alpine hospitality unfolded before me, as though I were miles away from anything but mountains and fresh air. My room was clean and snug with a large window that opened out onto the mountains and framed a view of a softly illuminated church steeple atop one of the crags. There was a bottle of wine with two glasses, a small card with chocolates taped to it and a close-by TV with wide range of German, French and English stations. With toasty heat and piping hot water to boot, and not one sound I could hear beyond the birds in the morning. I have since been back to the Trofana Tyrol 5 times, always asking for the same room although I have had different ones on two occasions which were equally cozy and one of which had a walkout balcony too. The petrol station shop operates 24/7 meaning you can pop down for food and drink as you please, with a coffee bar that makes the perfect place to paper-read or people-watch in the...

Check in was quite a distance away, but no real problem! Had a nice, early dinner at the check in hotel and then drove to our place. Nice, quiet and comfortable. The large private deck with table and chairs was lovely! The suite was SUPER clean. A lovely area too. Breakfast was great and they cook eggs to order. Very nice dining room. I'm sure the outdoor deck is lovely when in use too!

The breakfast was great with a large variety of food + yogurt simple & fruity, also fresh fruits like ananas and melon, but also dried fruits and different seeds + different deserts every day + of course coffee/tea. The staff was great and ready to help you with anything you may needed. They cleaned the room daily.

staff were very cheerful & helpful. Special mention for Denise & Andre the chef. Nothing was too much trouble & I had a great Birthday last night. The room was great & the lift was a blessing. The garage for our motorcycle was great as well. We would definately recommend a stay here!!

Excellent breakfast, but it was disappointing to be charged extra for an espresso coffee with it. Modern room, lovely bathroom. Beautiful mountain views. Comfortable bed. Our dog received a Welcome goody bag. Reception staff were very welcoming.

First, I would like to thank all staff members for their kindness and helpfulness. The breakfast was excellent, plenty of choices and high quality products. I appreciated my room which was quiet and comfortable.

I have to say that the staff was one of the best I had ever had on my travels! The food was excellent specially dinner that was recommended by the jung waitress. Everything else was more then I expected.

Excellent location. Very friendly staff, chef, receptionist, bartender, restaurant server, all in order. The breakfast was excellent. Very clean hotel. We will definitely come again.
