There is a Metro station on the square which can easily get you to the airport. There is also the Rossio train station where you can take the train to Sintra for the day. Well worth the trip. Pena Palace is breathtaking. The hotel is one short block to Rossio Square. In addition to all the shops, there are numerous outdoor restaurants. With tram 15E from Figueira Square you could go directly to Belem. Big apartment with lots of art objects very nice, beds and bedroom were comfortable. Also about a 6 minutes walk to Lisbon Rossio train station. The hotel room is a good size, with a comfortable bed and a nice bathroom with shower. Reception are friendly and helpful. Lisbon is the perfect balance.
Lisbon is the perfect balance. Small enough to be walked in a morning yet culturally rich with museums, art galeries, cultural centers and theatres. It has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and enough antiquities to satisfy any budding historian. Generally a safe city but watch your bags and wallets as pickpockets and opportunist thieves do operate, often around Rossio and especially on the notorious number 28 tram, where the pickpockets operate in organised teams of 4-5 people. Found the people of Lisbon to be very patient, polite and friendly. Took their time, tried to understand a problem, and give all the help they could. Easy going pace of life, a most beautiful city.
