The view from the River Avon is interesting but does not rate in the same league as Ponte Vecchio in Firenze. Once on the bridge, you really wouldn't know you are on a bridge ... it just looks like a streetscape.

The City of Bath has mobilized some public-spirited citizens go guide groups of visitors on free walking tours of the highlights of the city. They meet in the square in front of the Roman Baths. There were 5 or 6 groups of 8 to 10 people; our guide was very good. I think it was called "The Mayor's Tour" or somesuch. Check for times. Once you have returned home, try to find a very good BBC detective drama called "McDonald & Dodds." It's filmed in Bath, and Scenic Bath is very nearly the main character of the program! We get it on Britbox.

Room: Double Guest Room which was large for a solo traveller but might be a bit cramped for a couple Location: Excellent, 2 minutes to Pulteney Bridge, beside a Waitrose and no traffic noise during the night. Breakfast: Good selection from buffet and more items could be added to the cooked option Staff very friendly and helpful. My room was ready well before 4pm check-in.

Number 17 was a wonderful stay. Our room overlooked the Abbey and we were thrilled to be able to open the windows and sit and listen to the bells from the Abbey that evening. The room was spacious, clean, tidy, furnishings lovely, bed comfortable, bathroom clean and great shower and shower pressure. After travelling for weeks, this was important to us! The room is well cared for and the bonus was a car space and easy walk across Pulteney Bridge to the city. This was a great stay and highly recommend. Thanks for having us Arthur.

Lovely place to stay with a beautiful breakfast. We appreciated the breakfast to go the day we had to leave early. Thanks for your wonderful hospitality Simon and Adrian! Just a tip - Don’t let google maps take you along the canal from the train station. There’s a much easier way over the Pulteney bridge .

The Flat is just a described: two lovely double rooms (one could sleep a 2+2 family) and a bijou single room that was perfect for an adult. It is within a 5-minute walk of Pulteney Bridge and the city centre, and there are two splendid parks very close by... and a corner shop at the other end of the street... and outdoor dining in the garden in the sunshine!

I think if anyone is visiting Bath to immerse themselves in the cultural experience of Austen, the Assembly Rooms and Pulteney Bridge, it is far better to stay in a room which has a lot of style and character, rather than a modern, stolid hotel room.
