Kotež (from the French Cottages — "hut") is an urban settlement in Belgrade, located on the left bank of the Danube. The cottage is only 7 km away from Republic Square, and belongs to the first zone of the city of Belgrade. A large number of trees have been planted in the settlement and it belongs to one of the greenest settlements in Belgrade. The Kotež settlement was founded in 1968. It was built in the shape of an octagon, but since 1980 it has been expanding and losing its original, regular geometric shape. Kotež has its own market, supermarket, local community, clinic, two cafes, two post offices, there are several supermarket chains, there are also a large number of hamburgers and small shops. One of the largest coffee roasters in Serbia is located in Kotež. In the settlement there are also two kindergartens and an elementary school, as well as the church of the holy apostles Peter and Paul. At the beginning of the new millennium, Kotež became known throughout Serbia due to the development of the hip-hop scene in the settlement itself. The groups Bad Copy, Prti Bee Gee and their members, popular musicians Timjah, Ays Nigrutin and Eufrat often mention the name of the settlement in their songs, as well as the number 43 (bus line that operates on the route Trg Republike - Kotež). The cottage has a moderate continental climate.
