Bakkafjörður is a tiny fishing village in Iceland’s far North-East, home to around 60 people. Guests enjoy a peaceful atmosphere, fresh sea air, and views of the Langanes Peninsula. From time to time, whales can even be spotted in the fjord, making the setting truly unique. There is no grocery shop in the village, so it’s best to bring supplies in advance. The closest shops are in Vopnafjörður (30 km) and Þórshöfn (40 km). In summer, meals are available at the local restaurant, and fuel is available at the village gas station. The cabin has free private parking just outside and is easily accessible year-round. Pets are not allowed. Smoking is not permitted indoors, but guests are welcome to enjoy a cigarette on the terrace. Nearby attractions include Digranes Lighthouse (1 hour hike), Selárdalur Swimming Pool (20 min drive), Bustarfell turf houses (50 min drive), Rauðanes Point coastal hike (1 hour drive), Stuðlagil Canyon (1h 40min drive), Dettifoss waterfall (2 hours drive), Lake Mývatn geothermal area (2 hours drive), and Húsavík, Iceland’s whale-watching capital (approx. 2 hours 30 min drive).
