With so many amenities and attractions on your doorstep it's possible to park the car for a few days and explore the immediate local area on foot. Thorpeness Meare which was inspired J M Barrie's Peter Pan is strolling distance from the house and here you can rent a boat on the lake to discover the Pirate's lair, Wendy's home and Captain's house to name but a few. In addition to the rowing boats, guests can also hire kayaks, dinghies and canoes. Keen golfers will be eager to tee-off on the 18 hole championship golf course, regarded as one of the finest heathland courses in Britain. On warmer days, a dip in the sea is always a must - Thorpeness has a wonderful stretch of shingle beach. If you feel yourself getting peckish after all of that exploring, directly opposite the property is The Dolphin Inn which serves a delicious Sunday lunch or why not head to The Kitchen for a light-bite. In August, the Thorpeness Regatta is a highlight for the area, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display over the Meare, not to be missed.
Heading along the coast is the popular seaside town of Aldeburgh. The town has a vibrant art and music scene, along with a bustling high street of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. If you discover you've forgotten to pack your best shirt or favourite pair of trainers, head to O & C Butcher or its sister shop Fleur. Other retailers along the high street include seaside favourites such as Weird Fish, Sea Salt and Musto. Aldeburgh is a true foodie heaven with its abundance of delis and tasty restaurants. If you plan on dining at home, be sure to pick up some fresh fish from Aldeburgh Market and finish your meal with some carefully selected delicacies from Lawson's Delicatessen.
