While backpacking through Europe in 1989, Randy and Eleanore McMahon fell in love with bed and breakfasts.
Each time they’d stay at a new one, they’d imagine what it would be like to be the owners. Their favourite was in Gimmelwald, Switzerland.
"Walter, the owner in Gimmelwald, seemed to have it made," says Randy. "He was surrounded by beautiful views and got to meet new people everyday. The whole bed and breakfast lifestyle was fascinating."
Randy and Eleanore dreamed of buying the property and moving to Switzerland, but at the ages of 27 and 29 they ultimately decided they would have a more secure life in Canada.
Twenty-eight years and three kids later, Randy and Eleanore's dream of owning a bed and breakfast is coming true. They're opening a bed and breakfast on the shores of Lake Winnipeg, surrounded by equally beautiful views of Manitoba's Interlake.
