What's not to like here. We stayed for 5 nights. The rooms are exceptional, the layout is beatiful, the location is super quiet, flora and fauna (we even saw a tapir one morning) are plenty. At first we thought we were a bit far from the sea / beach (so to speak: 4 km by car is not that far :), but this is more than compensated by the amazing river running through the property (we spend at least one relaxing hour in it every day). Service is exceptional (viva Laetitia!), as is breakfast (they offer a lot of different choices but we ended up having the same every day since it was so good). And now the best part. Olman "the greatest host ever" is very kind and attentive and can help you with everything: organising activities (which are great), advising on restaurants in town (plenty of good food to find there btw), arranging transport to town (which we didn't need as we had our own car), assisting you with problems (which we didn't need since we didn't have any, probably because he solves them before they occur). He can even arrange for "sur place" dining (if you don't feel like going into town) by bringing in take away orders. This to mention but a few...

It is impossible not to like such a place! Beautiful location, just right on a beautiful little beach. Very comfortable room. Sound of the ocean, during the night. We can highly recommend staying at Sabalo Lodge. Anouk and Kevin were amazing hosts and we felt always very welcomed and taken care of. Breakfast and Dinner were great, Kevin is a great chef and especially his tuna tartar and beef were amazing. The surrounding is wonderful - jungle life a lots of animals and we took the chance to use the canoes they provide for free. We didn't need to take care about bookings for sightseeing. Anouk and Kevin arranged that for us and we had a great experience with the night boat tour in the mangroves or the tour to Corcovado. Even when we returned to our car, which we left in Sierpe, we had a chance to do a mangrove tour seeing a lot of animals. their captain Melvin found every animal even if they were hiding and took us close to them. We will definitely come back when visiting Costa Rica again.

Las Caletas is a very special place in a very special country. It was set on its own little bay, principally accessible only by boat, but you could walk to Drakes Bay too. Providing both breakfast and dinner, on the expectation that guests would generally be out doing tours or visits during the day - which they were only to pleased to help you arrange the lodge had a very peaceful atmosphere, lovely gardens to sit in, active and colourful wildlife all around, and Daniel (i hope I have remembered his name - he is doing a degree in marine biology) who just ran everything so smoothly. Because it is quite small everyone eats at the same time in the evening so you tend to get to know some of the other guests, making it friendly as well as relaxing. There is a wide range of activities available - but I would recommend that you get these booked before you arrive as some get booked out quite well in advance - although Daniel will do what he can. The beach is good and the sea quite swimmable, but there can be quite a pull when you try to get out!
