The old town is big enough to spend a couple of days walking around and exploring, or just chilling in cafes. There are also plenty of massage places nearby and the beach isn't far either, so it's a good place for a short relaxing getaway. Hoi An is a UNESCO World Heritage site and lives up to this designation in spades! The downtown area is quaint and beautiful. Many local artisans create one-of-a-kind items. If you need some new outfits or shoes, the local tailors and shoemakers are exceptional. The night life with the local lanterns everywhere in the trees and floating on the river make Hoi An by night truly enchanting. The night market has the usual items that I have seen elsewhere in Vietnam - but having them all in one spot was helpful if one is looking to do some serious souvenir shopping. If you don’t like crowds the Hoi An at night is not for you. If bargaining at markets and eating out cheaply is to your taste Hoi An is perfect. Visually stunning at night with the lantern boats on the river. The memories of Hoi An. show is quite spectacular and worth a visit. Hoi An is very picturesque and the OldTown with its multi coloured boats and lanterns is wonderful to see. I felt safe walking around on my own even though it gets very crowded at dusk when the tourists boats are floating down the river with their lanterns. Asian flavor, interesting locations, one day is clearly not enough if you want to do it thoughtfully with a visit to museums and shops. For those fitter than us (we three are in our 70’s) bicycles are also available free of charge. The staff, particularly Naomi, Wendy, Thomas and Tri, are incredibly helpful and speak excellent English. A big shout out to our lovely driver, Ken, who is also a great ambassador for the hotel. The hotel was a. 10 minute walk to the beach so we did this most days and found lots of coffee shops, restaurants and spas.
