We loved our time at this hotel, it’s in a great location in the gas lamp district. Our dog was made to feel like an extra guest and got a welcome pack of freebies! The bed was the comfiest we’d ever slept in, it definitely makes getting up in the morning a struggle!

FAQs about hotels in San Diego

The Art of Easy Living

Sweeping along the coast against a mountain backdrop, San Diego has easy living down to a fine art. Its wonderful beaches and mild climate make it a favourite spring break destination, and with over 40 city breweries, there are plenty of ice cold beers to set the mood.

The city’s most recognisable landmark is the Hotel del Coronado, a wooden Victorian beach resort, now a National Historic Landmark. The original Spanish mission, the first in California, has been relocated to the Mission Valley area, and Old Town San Diego still has many Colonial buildings and quirky shops. Also great for shopping are Horton Plaza and the boutiques in the beachfront neighbourhoods.

The city’s most famous attraction is its zoo in Balboa Park, a few blocks from San Diego International Airport. One of the world’s largest zoos, it is well worth a visit, as is the fantastic SeaWorld, home to several killer whales. To see wildlife in its natural habitat head to La Jolla beach where harbour seals rest, or watch whales in season from Point Loma Lighthouse.

Just over the border from Mexico’s Tijuana, San Diego has a distinctly Latin American vibe and a variety of accommodation encompassing apartments, motels, B&Bs and hotels. See Booking.com for the best deals.

San Diego has many areas of interest - being aware of the traffic patterns is key. When we traveled outside of rush hour, it was a breeze on the highway. We went to Lara's Labyrinth twice for the Da Vinci and Sheepshank Redemption escape rooms- highly recommend.

Close to all the restaurants, shopping and beaches. We loved our Italian dinner at Siamo Napoli Restaurant as well as steak at Eddie V's. Great to see all the sea life just walking along the coast. Great for kayaking, swimming, sitting on the beach, strolling around. Watching the sunset.

San Diego is one of the smallest city Ive visited in the US, Recommend: the USS Midway museum; if you're into war history and Naval ships. Have a stroll on the bayfront a lot of maritime traffic to observe. Grab a baseball game: if you're in season, just for the stadium experience, Visit Balboa park and its museums. Grab dinner in Little Italy. Enjoy the beach at Coronado island. Visit the Zoo: if you're into animals.

The people were so kind and helpful.

The people were so kind and helpful. The streets were a little dirty and often smelled like piss. The harbor tour was fantastic. I loved being able to go find a bodega or a bar or a baseball stadium or a hotel all within walking distance I really had a fabulous time. On the walk back to the hotel we stopped off at every rooftop bar for a drink. They all had great views! I definitely recommend the gas lamp as a travel destination.

We arrived at 3 AM after a 25 hour transit day from our home in rural Canada via Toronto and Minneapolis airports, then fog diverted to LAX instead of San Diego airport and bus back to SD, taxi to hotel. The front desk staff was empathetic, extended our checkout time to noon, and we found our comfortable room and bed. Next morning we saw our cruise ship in the port across the road and the Maritime museum too. So after coffee and muffins, we had our luggage stored and went to explore - excellent. Our cruise was great too.

Wow, what an incredibly well thought out and unique hotel. This was beautiful, the attention to detail in the decor, atmosphere and even the amazing smell throughout the whole hotel. This was truly a great experience, in a prime location walking distance to food and drinks, nightlife and a 25 minute walk to balboa park. The staff we extremely kind and helpful, the breakfast provided was great warm food and delicious pastries. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to San Diego

Surprising big, and incredibly comfortable, we came to San Diego for a convention and Town and Country exceeded all expectations. Hotel food is not normally great, don't expect great food here. It's decent, it's not horrifically overpriced, but this is not a foodies resort; not even the coffee was good and coffee is always good. This resort is immaculate and well-designed for its guests. The Monkey Bar was adorable.

Great location and theme of hotel fitted San Diego well. Nice lobby, well designed rooms with nice decor. Majority of staff I encountered were friendly. Beds were nice and comfy with lots of natural light in the room. Walls/windows seem pretty well insulated and kept out pretty much all noise even on the busier weekend nights.
