A Tennessee Mountain Home
Pigeon Forge is a family entertainment hotbed in the Great Smoky Mountains. Though ‘great’ is quite an understatement, as the sight of blue mist hovering above forested peaks is simply breathtaking.
The most famous attraction is undoubtedly Dollywood, where a steam train puffs around a host of rides and shows in a theme park named after country legend Dolly Parton. Within the grounds is the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame, and next door are pools and waterslides at Dolly’s Splash Country.
Cowboy boots should be at the ready for the singer’s Dixie Stampede dinner theatre and the Country Tonite Theater, and toe-tapping is also virtually guaranteed at the Grand Majestic Theater and Smoky Mountain Opry.
The Old Mill is a wooden watermill on the Little Pigeon River, once part of a forge complex which sparked the town’s name. Also by the river are some Pigeon Forge outlet malls and the NASCAR SpeedPark which hosts car and truck events. The Elvis Museum houses memorabilia of ‘The King’ while the Titanic Museum is a floating, half-size replica of the doomed ship.

Pigeon forge is the myrtle beach of the mountains. There are so many amazing attractions you will never be bored! There are hotels to fit all budgets and so many good places to eat. The Old Mill is my favorite restaurant of all times. The food takes me back to Sundays at Gran's after church. The island is an all day adventure with food, attractions, and so many cute shops. The 7D adventure ride is fun and you can get so many discounts on line. The rocky top mountain coaster was a hit with my family. I have kids ranging from 10-22 and everyone was smiling. Alcatraz east and the titanic museum are an absolute must! And just when you think you have found the most amazing place on earth you look out your window and see the sunsets over the Great Smokies. Pigeon Forge is a great location for a family vacation.
Pigeon Forge is a great location for a family vacation. There are numerous activities, shows, and attractions. It's only 20 minutes from Gatlinburg which also has many attractions to visit. If you plan on visiting one of the dinner shows, check their schedule online in advance as they may be sold out if you wait until arrival (it depends on the season). Anything you could want is at your fingertips. Unfortunately that is not what I wanted out of my vacation to the great smoky mountains. It is too much a tourist trap. Definitely not a walkable experience and you have to pay for everything you do. Parking fees prevent many from being able to participate. Oh and the national park is horrible now, you can’t find anywhere to park to even buy a parking pass. They need to just set up admission booths and charge you as you enter the park.
