While public transit was efficient and affordable, the city itself was often crowded, noisy, and had noticeable issues with cleanliness and homelessness. The smell of cannabis was common, and food was both expensive and generally disappointing in quality. Despite these challenges, we never felt unsafe. f you're visiting New York City, plan for a short stay unless you're comfortable with the fast pace and urban intensity. Stick to well-reviewed restaurants to avoid overpriced, low-quality meals, and use public transit—it’s affordable and efficient, though not always clean. The Battery Park area is the place to stay in NYC. We felt very safe. The restaurants and location is great. The walk way along the Hudson river is excellent. I think in general New York has a lot of positives but there are a few gripes that I have 1. Since the Legalization of cannabis it’s all you can smell everywhere. 2. The roads and sidewalks are shocking and as I’m disabled and use a walker it was very difficult a to negotiate. It’s every man/woman for themselves 3.
