Lots of parking. Close to a few breakfast spots. Ideal for just stopping for the night before getting back on the road. The office does close at 10 pm which I wish would have been posted somewhere more obvious

Alturas is a sleepy old western town that was probably a whistle stop on the rail line. There are several restaurants, hotels, and grocery stores. We have stopped there overnight for 25 years passing through to Lake Tahoe. We stayed at the Niles Hotel for the first time and it was a fun change from the motel scene. Not much to do there in the evening that we can tell, but we seniors hit the hay pretty early anyway!

Was disappointing heard a lot about the cute town of Alturas but was not so. The town is mostly closed on weekends. Limited access to restaurants or any good cuisine. Not a fun destination for a road trip. Valero gas station was open but the cops there pulled over a drug dealer looking into the car all over at like 7 am. The other gas station Chevron pumps didn't work. The drive is scenic for desert landscape but try to surpass Alturas and maybe stay in Susanville.

Alturas is a delightful small town at the edge of the Warner Mountains, a forgotten part of California. There are a lot of ranches in the area, very rural, but also has a lot of recreation in the Modoc National Forest for outdoor enthusiasts. The Warner Mountains are virtually untouched and uncrowded. Locals are super friendly and helpful.

    We stayed one night.

We stayed one night. Many of the restaurants had closed by 7 pm on a Friday, so we had one choice of eatery within walking distance of our motel. The town may not have recovered yet from the Pandemic.

The hotel was as expected, not fancy but clean and comfortable. The host/owner was really the highlight, very friendly and welcoming as well as helpful giving restaurant info.

The hotel was right on the main path in and out of town. It's a good location that's not too far from anything
