What an absolute gorgeous gem of a hotel in Stone Town. Truly authentic building and decor and incredible bedrooms. I stayed in the ‘Kate’ room which was utterly delightful. Beautiful private terrace overlooking the town, enormous bedroom (beautifully decorated) and an open-air bathtub adjoining. Super private. Gorgeous to wake up in the morning and open the doors and feel the breeze filter through. Beautiful bed linen and towels (woven locally) and handmade soaps. If you are into aesthetics, then this is the place for you. I can’t say enough to rate the hotel. All the staff were absolutely delightful and super attentive (as a single female traveller it was very much appreciated). The Manager was extremely kind and friendly. Also organised a fantastic private tour of the town for me which was brilliant. The rooftop restaurant is to die for. The best, authentic and freshest of food I have ever eaten.The taster plate experience with sunset and cocktails was dreamy. Amazing views and ambiance. Didn’t want it to end! The Secret Garden restaurant is also absolutely worth a visit. I attended on a Friday evening when there was live music being performed. Truly magical. Again, the food was just amazing and the staff all super kind.

Shoki Shoki house was booked last minute for 3 night and it did not disappoint. The general manager, David, was very helpful and honest when we sat down to ask him about the island and Serengeti safari. The property did not disappoint and the location was ideal, a close walk to the beach, the market and restaurants. It is clean, the staff is pleasant, the breakfast is delish, and the overall experience was extremely positive. Asante Sana to everyone at the HOUSE.

This hotel was just as we expected. After staying 10 nights on the east coast of Zanzibar we decided to stay one night in Stone Town before going back home. The hotel itself was very special with nice old furniture and decorations all over. The staff was very professional and helped us in everything we needed. The check-out was already at 10.00 AM and our plane was departing 23.35 that evening so we had a long day to wait. Fortunately the hotel provide us a luggage room for free and then we could also use one of the rooms in the afternoon to get a quick shower before travelling. Brilliant. The hotel has two swimming pools which were ok, of course the water is very warm so not much refreshing. The food and service at the restaurant was very good. We ate there two times and nothing to complain. The breakfast was also very good - wide selection of fresh fruit, bread, small snacks and also an omelette made to order. So basically nothing to complain about. we would go again.

    Activities are great but most places are teeming with tourists. It's probably better to be taken for activities privately (price will be about the same anyways). Better to book through existing tour operators because the freelance guides always add extra onto the price. Night Food market is a must but be careful not to be ripped off, they just handed you plates of food & then charged a ridiculous amount afterwards. Cape Town Fish Market is a must for a sunset dinner. Prison Island & Nakupenda was average, they were overrun with people. The Spice Farms & Slave Chambers are a must to understand the passed history & Coral Caves have stunning natural pools to swim in deep underground. The North has Mnemba Island, great for snorkeling. The East is windy & good for Kite Surfing. The South is supposed to be good for deepsea fishing but myself & another group only caught white Snapper, no Game Fish.

    Very busy city, lots of traffic & motor cycles. Communication was slow . Very expensive place . Couldn’t find any malls. Lots of tourists . Very interesting shopping at indoor malls & buying fruit off the street. Lots of negotiations for the USD .

    Zanzibar is an amazing destination.

    Zanzibar is an amazing destination. Don't just go to the beaches also visit the villages and learn the culture. Try Sea Walk and Quad Bike is a must. Don't leave Zanzibar without going to Mnemba Island for Dolohines best sighting. In stone town don't miss Stone Town Cafe for their Hearty Beef Burger they call it Sandwitch. At night just stick to Forodhani for all kinds of food.

    Old town is amazing.

    Old town is amazing. Walking around the lanes and back roads showed the real character of the place - particularly when you get outside of the "tourist" hub. No need for tour guides - just grab a map and explore. Also visit the fish market for a real look into the day to day life of the locals and fishermen.

    Stone Town in Zanzibar is the place to stay, for about three days. Enjoy the excellent beaches by staying at one or more, dividing your time between northern & southern beaches. preferable to hire a car for this purpose, as large distances & some activities like dolphin watching best from 6 to 7 AM, less crowd & more dolphins. each beach has something special, like Page beach for Kite Boarding. plenty of sea based activities. sothern beaches less crowded

    The city and the infrastructure needs more improvements. For someone who has no much access to white sand beaches this island can offer something. Freddy Mercury's museum was the biggest highlight to me personally.

    The staff is amazing. Food at the restaurant is good. Rooftop is nice. Location is right in the middle of Stone Town. This hotel allows you to be a part of the city without being contaminated by tourism. I recommend the hotel if you want to breath the local culture and encounter locals. 2/3 nights is enough. Not recommended if you are looking for a European fancy beach with 5 stars service and no contact with local culture.
