One of the nicer areas I've visited in the Algarve.
One of the nicer areas I've visited in the Algarve. A few tourists about about not nearly as busy as Tavira, and as Olhao is a working fishing port, it still has that "local" feel to it. Decent esplanade adjacent to the harbour area although the only poor "rip-off" meal we had during our stay was along the front so my advice would be to go slightly inland where the quality of the food and value for money is a lot better. Nice and sunny during our stay but a bit windy so worth taking a jumper or fleece for the evenings. Best meals were at Piteu ds Baixa Mar, Taberna D'Olhao, Cafe Snack Domino and O Trevo. Olhao is a beautiful fishing town with its fabulous fish and vegetable market. The restaurants are excellent we never had a bad meal .The wine is also extremely good. We truly felt content after our recent trip to Olhão, Portugal. It was a lovely place to stay — peaceful yet well-connected to nearby towns and attractions. We rented a scooter and were able to explore the entire region comfortably, from Sagres all the way to Vila Real de Santo António. A good bakery nearby together with a few smaller cafes. Olhao is well connected to other places by train and bus and easy to reach from Faro airport. Excellent value for the price.12 min walk to the trains and 20min to the marina. The lovely garden and pool area is great to eat in or enjoy a book. I often had it to myself.
