Strongly recommend to stay in the city instead of doing your Machu Picchu trip from Cusco directly. It would be much less tiring and the city of Ollantaytambo is very cosy and comfortable. Specially if you are coming from outside Cusco and flying in, my recommendation to fly into Cusco and go straight to Ollantaytambo, stay here and visit Machu Picchu. Ollantaytambo is a very interesting place in itself.
Ollantaytambo is a very interesting place in itself. It can also be used as a starting point to visit Machu Picchu and other interesting archeological sites around. It's about 2 hours from Cusco by taxy.Guest review byReinaldoArgentina - 10.0

If going to Machu Picchu or hiking the inca trail, it's better to stay in Ollantaytambo than Cusco. Otherwise you have a 2 hour bus drive to Ollantaytambo anyway to catch the train. Cute old Incan town with amazing ruins.Guest review byAlanahAustralia - 10.0
Just an amazing place.
Just an amazing place. We loved it so much we were afraid Cuzco wouldn’t measure up (but it did). Great place to acclimate for the higher altitude of Cuzco. There is a free hike up the mountain, the square is a great place to relax and people watch, the people are friendly.Guest review byAnonymous

It is located at the foot of one of the mountains and faces the other. The room has glass windows that allow you to see the beautiful nature.
