The hosts (Graeme and Deborah) go above and beyond with making your stay memorable. We had a freshly baked chocolate cake, fresh goodies from their garden, in addition to a well stocked supply of breakfast items. We woke up one morning listening to the magpies (birds) singing and the dairy cows next door right up against the fence within arms reach, ending the day watching and hearing the kākās (parrots) flying overhead - making us feel like it was a farm stay. An easy 30 minute drive to Hobbiton and 1hr to Waitomo Caves, plus an enjoyable short walk to riverside trails and suspension bridge make this an ideal location.

This hotel has a special factor in that it has a natural thermal spa in its garden! What a delight to be able to try out the 3 ponds next to the river, where we saw a visiting seal. All the meals we had were exceptional value and quality abs the staff were warm and welcoming.

We found the house very welcoming and we were positively surprised by the fresh bread we found on the kitchen table. The house was big and clean surrounded by cozy and calm garden, and we found all needed for cooking as well as privacy:)

My recent stay at this charming homestay surpassed all my expectations and turned out to be one of the most delightful experiences of my life. The credit of this wonderful experience goes greatly to the Host, Tracy, who stands out for being extremely friendly and hospitable. Tracy is undeniably one of the most warmhearted Hosts I’ve ever encountered. Her endearing hospitality made me feel welcomed and comfortable from the very moment I arrived. She eagerly offered assistance and guidance for local attractions, ensuring that I made the most of my stay. The room itself was cozy and inviting, with all the necessary amenities to provide a relaxing stay. The decor was well-thought-out, and the overall atmosphere made me feel right at home. It was evident that Tracy took great care to ensure every aspect of the guest experience was top-notch. Additionally, the breakfast was both delicious and abundant, serving as the perfect start to my day. Tracy ensured that the menu included a variety of options to cater to different dietary preferences, which I greatly appreciated. Her attention to detail showcased her dedication to providing guests with an extraordinary stay. In conclusion, this homestay experience was truly one to remember, thanks to Tracy’s unmatched friendliness and hospitality, the comfortable room, and a sumptuous breakfast. I wholeheartedly recommend this homestay to anyone seeking a genuine and memorable stay. I am eager to visit again in the future!

We absolutely loved the teams service, the facilities it came with, the area the beautiful chickens. We loved that they had a list to help us start the fire as we weren’t educated on that, definitely loved the area so quiet and nurturing. I would definitely recommend for a family or even just a couple to getaway. The price is definitely worth it in many ways in my opinion it should be charged more for the stay.

Putaruru like so many smaller towns in NZ struggles.

Putaruru like so many smaller towns in NZ struggles. It is obviously on the main route for heavy trucks and few seem to stop over. Not much choice of sit-down food outlets but Wooden Farmer staff worked hard to make sure we were happy when we had dinner. Short drive to Rotorua and Matamata which was good for us. Local supermarket is small but carries a good range.

It was everything we expected because the photos of the rooms depicted exactly what it was and it was affordable. I could park my car by the front entrance of the Hotel and the Staff were friendly. If I had extra time I would of loved to hang out for another night or two.

I stayed (1 night) overnight on my way to next destination, this is long enough. I did visit the Blue Springs (still free entry at the time of writing but they are building a gate!) but unfortunately access was blocked due to rock-fall. Walking along the river was nice but there are steps and when wet it can be slippery. Car park is small and fills up fast. People were friendly but told me there is nothing to do.

It should be made clear that the hotel has NO food facilities, not even cornflakes for breakfast! Receptionist did recommend a decent cafe for breakfast but I was very surprised on arrival to find no food facilities. Shoulda read the small print! Not much of a view of Putaruru as it was foggy in the morning.

We visited in the middle of winter and the weather was awful but we did go to over the moon cheese factory ( they were unable to offer cheese making classes at this time because of covid) but gave us some cheesetasting and because it was the first thing we did we were able to go back and buy more yummy cheese before we left, the water park in the middle of town was in the middle of a revamp which is good because when it comes to summer it will be ready, the wooden farmer was delicious, next time we go to Putaruru we will pick a time of year that has better weather so we can enjoy some of the beautiful nature walks they have.

Putaruru township & people is lovely, Good food at the eating places, some a bit to expensive for a town like this. Had a great meal at The Cook Cafe & Restaurant. Good food at The Wooden Farmer but a little expensive. Great Breakfast at the Crazy Cow & lovely staff.
