Usually when you see a "Studio" apartment it means a tiny space with everything crammed in. Not the case here. The apartment was very spacious and fully equipped. There is communal laundry on site for free which is a massive plus. Kitchen was really high quality and the bed was super comfy. It's right beside Avondale train station so a quick journey into the CBD. Avondale itself was a nice area to stay with plenty of cafes and supermarkets.

FAQs about hotels in Auckland

Thrilling City of Sails and Volcanoes

Called the 'City of Sails' due to the large number of yachts anchored in Waitemata Harbour, Auckland is the largest city of both New Zealand and Polynesia. Built on the Auckland Volcanic Field featuring about 48 extinct volcanoes, this city truly offers a blast!

Auckland is a real cultural mix with strong Asian, European, Maori and Polynesian influences, celebrated in frequent festivals and sporting events. Some examples of these cultures can be seen at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, one of the best in New Zealand. For more, try the upmarket dining of the Viaduct Harbour.

Another must-see is the tallest free-standing tower in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower. If you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can even perform the Sky Jump, a controlled base jump from 192 metres!

Climbing the volcanic cones as well as the stunning Auckland Harbour Bridge will provide unforgettable, panoramic views of the city’s skyline. For a different perspective, why not try a cruise or sea kayaking?

Getting to the city centre is an easy trip from Auckland International Airport. Find modern hotels, comfortable motels and cheap hostels on Booking.com, sure to have the perfect accommodation for your holiday.

Vibrant city with good public transport for Auckland University Open Day. Auckland has excellent malls, cafes, restaurants and even the weather is always sunny but always followed by heavy rain! As long as you come prepared it is easy to navigate this multicultural metropolis which is the future of New Zealand. Shout out to best Japanese restaurant Azabu Ponsonby.

    Not a particularly nice city.

Not a particularly nice city. Significant amount of homelessness that does not seem to be addressed. The sky tower was a good visit. The eating was varied but heavily weighted to asian food. The hop on hop off explorer bus was way overpriced, $40 to $45 would be reasonable and the pre recorded voice track was grating. There was a particularly very helpful and friendly lady in the "I" site information shop on the waterfront - definitely an asset. The waterfront was OK and the harbour is great. The ticketing system is very modern and maybe a bit confusing to people not used to the way it works.

Auckland city isn't the nicest or safest of cities to move around in but my stay there was ok. Going mid week meant a lot of local eatery places shut at 10.00pm so after our show was difficult to go and get a meal or some tasty food. Is it easy to get around? Not really as we had to park our car off site as the Grand Chancellor has no parking and the roads are busy in the city which makes moving around quite stressful.

Make sure you get out on the harbour, you can't beat the city of sails by boat. The zoo is great for an affordable family day out, Kelly Tarlton's is also an Auckland must do for families. Make sure you allow travel time if in a rental car. Check traffic report.

We chose accommodation so we could visit the beautiful Browns Bay, Devonport via Narrow Neck and our favourite Mairangi Bay Bakery award winning pies which we enjoyed eating looking towards Aucklands famous Rangitoto Island volcano. We have travelled a lot and these are the best pies in our opinion. We also drove to Henderson area and went to Westgate and over to Newmarket. It is easy to get around if you know the areas like I do.

I like that Auckland is so diverse, and full of things to do and beautiful places to visit. I like how it has our family in it to visit. Also the parks I saw are well kept, and I especially like where there is a true public recycling system and awareness. That people are trying to be careful and follow the recycling rules. The only thing I wish is that the transportation system buses could be more aesthetically pleasing to look at and electrical with charging pads built into the roads here and there as needed.

I had my own car and stayed twice for one night a week apart. I asked for a quiet room and was assigned the end room ’18’ which I thought was perfect. Clean with tv/wifi and kitchenette and large bathroom. Could park outside the door - a unique electronic patio door mechanism. Quiet neighborhood on wide, quiet collector road. 10 minutes from the airport on the way out and close to the cross-city freeway (tried to stay out of Auckland traffic as much as possible).

Hands down the best hotel I’ve EVER stayed at. (I’m a fifo worker and have stayed at hundreds of hotels over the past 5 years). No hotel has ever given me an experience like the Pullman Auckland Airport. - Staff were amazing, the nicest people you’ll ever meet, always happy to help with any concerns and very welcoming. - Facility’s we’re absolutely flawless. Overall a fantastic experience, will definitely stay more regularly in the coming trips back to NZ!

We stayed in the Ambassador Suite. It was very spacious, with a large lounge, dining table, small kitchen, comfy king bed and a large bathroom. The unit was clean and overlooked a swimming pool and had views over a lagoon. The property is located 25 minutes drive from the airport, but with easy access to Auckland CBD. Sylvia Park Mall is 15 minutes walk away. The staff were friendly and helpful and responded promptly and effectively to our requests.

Yellow bus to Hotel from Airport was quick and easy. Reception staff were smiling and welcoming at checkin. King size bed was comfortable but the room was small and the overhead bunks were annoying but this is a budget Hotel and one of the cheapest in Auckland. The room was spotlessly clean and our overall time spent at Ibis Budget Hotel was a 10 Star experience.
