I am not someone that critiques food. I like all food & very rarely complain - but the best food I had on this trip was on the plane ride there. We were booked for 4 nights in the above water bungalows - but left a day early. The food was appalling - everything is canned & very little fresh produce. When we finally found a nice restaurant the prices were outrageous. I don't generally write bad reviews but I wish people had of been more honest with their reviews & I would have returned to Fiji rather than Noumea. Not really much to do there, I would say it’s a place that lives for cruise ships, on the days that ships come in there’s lots of hop on hop off buses , nothing at other times. We were hoping to be able to do trips out of town or visit other islands, but the Tourist information office just looked puzzled when we enquired about this. So if you want to do anything in NC outside of Noumea, make sure you plan it in advance! Having said that, Noumea is a nice town, very French, and I felt safe there. Also it was clean and litter free. The aquarium is worth a visit, much better than I expected.Guest review byalisonCanada - 10.0

We enjoyed eating at various nearby restaurants, either within walking distance or a short drive. In addition to beaches and the beautiful oceanfront setting, Noumea has various interesting attractions and heritage sites within the city or nearby. Noumea is beautiful, good for relaxation & reseting your exercise regime. Civil arrest happened while there ,flights camcelled, airport closed, wld return if safe to do so. check to see whats happening in Noumea to avoid being stuck in the country. Casa del sole great place to stay, you need to pay for yr wii fii, ā week is 5 days at 2000 franc, there 24 hr is till 11am doesn't matter if you arrive 11pm night before. Place needed some maintaince, oven wasn't working, needed to take yr rubbish bags but if asked they wld give you one, need washing powder & to top up on toilet paper as toilet paper was scarce, but in saying that the country was under civil arrest & hard to get items. i went to the blue river national park and had a mountain bike ride, it was really beautiful, i arrived a bit late so missed out on the kayak. i went also to the black cliffs and they were beautiful also I would recommend checking if places are open before u go tourist places are closed sat/sun. it also rained my entire 4 days, sadly the trips i wanted to do were all canceled, so no snorkeling, kayaking no visiting the offshore islands so it was a bit disappointing in this aspect, but you cant help the rain. New Caledonia is also very set up to accommodate cruise ships and most things will be closed if there isn't a ship in the harbor. i would recommend getting a car though and driving around i saw such beautiful sceneryGuest review byAnonymousNew Zealand - 8.0

We did not realy visited Noumea town, just one morning we walked along the beach from "Le Meridien Noumea" to the shopping area around the Hilton Noumea. Just your standard souvenier shops and a few restaurants. That was all besides the road to and from the International Airport what we saw of Noumea. We did not have anything to eat in town but had a drink and I do have to mention, it's not cheap. NZ$ 10.45 for a 250 ml glas of local NC Number One beer. We stayed in DoubleTree by Hilton and at the Le Meridien. Both places offer enough relaxation, food and drinks. See individual info about these locations.Guest review byRobNew Zealand

We wanted a hotel in Noumea that would allow us to explore the city before our trip to the Isle of Pines. Gondwana Green was a great find. It was small but very clean and comfortable. We could walk to most of the city centre and had access to the local buses. There were numerous local good restaurants and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The city is realy expensive and Mocambo is a good choice if you dont need some extra comfort or a fancy room. Rooms are large and clean, the internet wifi is working well and tv is also okay. I walked out and swam every morning in crystal clear water. The premium rooms are quite large and the beds very comfortable. The oceanview was exceptional.
