Located in a quiet village off biwa lake, but not too far, we biked to there as we were doing round biwa trip. Owner offers free pick up from nearest train station. No worry that you don't have a car. But the place is for someone who like quiet stay. The nearest supermarket is 10 minutes bike away. It is village house fashioned into a guest house. There is washing machine 200 yen per wash+dry! We washed our bike clothes. The bar like lobby allows cooking and meeting other guests. Owner is very friendly. My friend was too tired to continue biking, she wanted to take a taxi to next guest house, owner provided a very doable solution: asked another guest whom we chatted at dinner time, also a biker in her home country to bike with me, saved my friend carrying her bike, and at the same time satisfying this guest 's plan to bike around. She went back by train. I said she was imaginative ! Everyone was happy. She answered email, ie our needs promptly as she stays in her house a little away.

The guesthouse is located at the end of a small road right by the rice fields. It was very quiet and peaceful and I had a good night's sleep. The house is tastefully decorated and has all the amenities you would need, including a washing machine that you can use for a small cost. The host speaks good English and explained clearly about everything in the house. The room was clean and tidy, and the futon was very comfortable. I would recommend others to stay here.

An amazing 4-star hotel located just next to the shoreline, and all rooms have a view of the beautiful Lake Biwa. Right next to parklands and Nagahama castle, and 5 mins from the city centre and old town market street. Staff is always really helpful and polite, the room was impeccably clean, and there is also free parking. If the hotel would have been located in Europe, a room would probably have costed twice as much as it normally does at Kitabiwako Hotel Grazie, and if you travel during the rainy season or similar, you can get a room for as little as £50, which is astonishing! The hotel also got an Italian restaurant, which I can strongly recommend, because it serves proper Italian cuisine to a reasonable price; normally, when something is advertised as Italian food in Japan it is either something that would make an Italian person cry (and not of joy), or you got yourself a proper but exclusive Italian eating place in Tokyo or Osaka that serves delicious food to a very high price and only to the select few. It is rare to get something that is proper Italian in Japan and 1) outside the big cities, and 2) will not ruin you for a simple meal. You know, if you want to take a short break from all the sushi and ramen...

Everything is perfect here, owner, room, facilities, location ! The area is very calm, close to Lake Biwa. Very enjoyable place !

    Nagahama is great place for renting a bike and cycling...

    Nagahama is great place for renting a bike and cycling around. We got e-bikes from rent place near station. Museums are good - take the Nagahama museum pass for 2 days. Shops, boutiques and restaurants are open around 11-16. No much hope to find any place where to dinner in the evening. Luckily there is a grocery shop in Station, and they have good sushi, onigiri and gyoza selection. For breakfast there is 1 cafe in the station, and very lovely Sheep cafe (opens at 11, fluffy pancakes and cafe to eat in). Anegawa onsen was very good as we were in Nagahama when it was very cold outside.

    Beautiful, quiet city with an old Japan feel, no tourists,...

    Beautiful, quiet city with an old Japan feel, no tourists, beautiful lake views and extremely beautiful and powerful shrines, as well as a lively but not overcrowded city center during Matsuri season. The perfect destination if you enjoy a quieter Japan, away from the crowds and noise of bigger city. Just please, don't turn it into the next overcrowded tourist destination.
