Located on Sicily’s eastern coast, at the foot of Mount Etna, Catania is the island’s second largest city. This charming destination features unique Sicilian Baroque architecture, large squares, avenues and a very important port.
On the northern side of the Cathedral Square, the historical Palazzo degli Elefanti houses the Town Hall of Catania. Facing the Ionian Sea, this beautiful seaside place is one the hottest Italian cities during the summer. Mount Etna is an active volcano and a nice place for skiing in winter or a trip to the solidified rivers of lava during the rest of the year.

First visit. Will be returning for longer at the end of our trip. Vibrant Catania very quirky, which I like, people, polite, friendly and want to help, food lovely. If you have not been to Catania before, you might be a bit taken aback by the run-down look of the city as there is plenty of graffiti on the walls. However, once you get past this, you'll find that the city has ALOT to offer. Beautiful buildings, fantastic history, buildings and architecture. Wonderful food and food markets, interesting art. Even some of the graffiti looked cool. It doesn't make a great first impression but it definitely grows on you. A tip - if you're on a budget and want to buy some mementos to take home, don't buy at the 'first' place you get to - stroll around the city streets and compare prices. Loved everything about Catania, very beautiful part of Sicily, would 100% recommend, visiting mount etna is a must. It’s breathtaking. Maravigghia gelato is amazing, mm!
