We spent our first 5 days in Bali at The Sebali Resort and from the moment we arrived we where met with amazing service in most spectacular venue in the jungle. The staff are great, taking care with the smallest of details to the big ones to make you feel special, they even decorated our room with baloons and decorations for my 30th birthday and prepared a birthday cake for my breakfast. The restaurant has beautifully made meals that cater to all taste buds and dietary requirements. We where also treated to a acoustic performance and traditional Balinese dancers in the evening. At the spa we enjoyed a 3 hour package, and it's safe to say nothing is more relaxing than getting a massage to the sounds of the jungle and river flowing in the background. We cannot thank the team at Sebali enough for our amazing stay, you made it unforgettable.

FAQs about hotels in Ubud

Bali's Peaceful Retreat

If you are seeking a hideaway from Bali’s chaotic Kuta, Ubud provides a welcome respite with its secluded paths, calming temples and specialised spa resorts. Surrounded by rice paddies, coconut trees and lush forests of green, Ubud is seen as the cultural centre of Bali.

The road leading up to Ubud features little villages specialising in handicrafts like Celuk (silver jewellery), Batuan (paintings) and Mas (wood carvings). Ubud, itself, produces all sorts of handicrafts in its peaceful foothills. There are also numerous art galleries, workshops and courses on offer for the budding artist.

The Monkey Forest is a popular tourist drawcard with its ravenous monkey population lunging at anything resembling food. The 9th-century Goa Gajah, or Elephant Cave, showcases the island’s historic past and there is the regular Ubud Market for modern-day souvenir hunters.

Ubud is a place for relaxation and many yoga and meditation centres have developed over the years on Indonesia’s most popular island. Booking.com offers a range of guest houses, villas, bungalows and world-class resorts with spa facilities or pool.

    Ubud is a lovely spot.

Ubud is a lovely spot. Lots of places to walk, eat and have a spa. Cafe Mudra is lovely to while away an afternoon. Go down to the Yoga Barn for some meditation or just to sit in peace. Go on the Orange Fields rice walk, right in town but take a few steps and out in the rice fields. Very spiritual place. Busy now though, lots of traffic zooming about so take that into account. A lot of time spent building new places to stay but some of that money needs to be spent on fixing the pavements. Watch for potholes when walking. Overall, favourite spot in Bali.

My friend and I visited The Pyramids of Chi and had several sessions from ancient sound healing inone pyramid and had the ecosystem... This was over 3 days .. The cafe had vegetarian food which was delicious and catered for people with food intolerances.... In Ubud we had massages ... reflexology and foot massages .. We ate at the Bali Buda which was organic and delicious and very reasonably priced .. We were in Ubud for pampering ourselves with healing therapies not to run around attempting to do everything ... We stayed 6 nights which was ample time for us to enjoy our experience ..

We have stayed in Ubud about 4 times over the last 8 years and during this time it has gotten very busy making the streets overcrowded and difficult to navigate. As a positive the locals have always been very nice and are one of the best features of anywhere in Bali.

I certainly wouldn't recommend that people drive to Ubud for the day. Big mistake in my opinion. The roads and traffic on the whole in Bali is appalling so to stay for a few days is better to get a feel and experience the area. We enjoyed where we stayed as it was well located for us to walk everywhere without the need for car lifts. We did get a driver for the day, tip is to leave early to avoid too many crowds. We enjoyed our day exploring various temples and waterfalls. Food is fabulous in Ubud. The footpaths are absolutely terrible though. The worst we've experienced :) We suggest whatever you do to try and start early morning. the jungle and walks through rice fields is just gorgeous.

I feel Ubud is rapidly losing its reputation as a centre of the Balinese arts (I have visited Ubud seven times in the last 40 years). The roads are now heavily congested and I am not sure the Balinese Culture is what is attracting the tourists, who now come to Ubud in their droves (I found I was the only westerner visiting a major three-day annual ceremony just outside of Ubud and a major cremation event in the centre of Ubud had very few tourists showing any interest.

We had a Deluxe Villa with private pool which gave us lots of space and a lovely calm space to relax after a busy day of activities. The resort was a bit of a distance from Central Ubud area but still possible to walk it and the hotel offered a free shuttle to the centre. Even though it was on a busier road the resort itself felt like an oasis of calm and was very peaceful.
