We found Volos to be a very nice town.
We found Volos to be a very nice town. It has good walks and a fine shopping centre. It is not crowded with tourists like some other places and there are so many restaurants and cafes. People are friendly and it was so nice to see a town that kept it's Greek characteristics. Unfortunately Volos doesn't have a good flight connection from Athens and we had to hire a taxi, a bit costly but it was quite pleasant to travel in a comfortable luxury vehicle with a very friendly driver.Guest review byBaker - 8.0

I was already been in Volos, couple of times but every time I discover something new. As you already know, Volos is the main harbour in this part of Greece, so the main ferry departure starts from here for the Sporades islands. The bay of Volos is huge with some Islands inside. If you plan to sailing Sporades, consider that you will spent so much time to reach the Skiatos island, so we decided to catch the ferry and start our sailing week from Skiatos.Guest review byMiloradSerbia - 10.0

The town isn't terribly interesting...not much history or...
The town isn't terribly interesting...not much history or beautiful buildings, and didn't notice directions to interesting places. My understanding is that an earthquake destroyed a lot of the town some years back, and the reconstruction (or construction) is uninspired. However, with a car, the surrounding area is magical. We went up the mountain to the Path of the Centaurs, Portaria, and Makrinitsa, all wonderful places, although recent floods made some of the roads a bit scary and a lot of construction was underway. Greek drivers are fearless and aggressive, so I was cautious and my daughter's boyfriend drove just like them...either approach seemed to work. We took the Hellenic Train to the Pelion, and would highly recommend it. It was a lot of fun, especially watching them turn the train around at the top. The little towns around Volos were great....friendly, good food, unique shopping. We wish we had time to have done more. We did take a catamaran trip out of Volos on Istion Charters, and it was wonderful. Highly recommend. A wonderful week asea.Guest review byBruceUnited States
