This was the second time my wife and I have been to Platanes. We went for the first time a few years ago and thought it was about time we went back. We enjoyed our visit then but this visit was even better. There is a variety of accommodation available from luxury 5 stars hotels to small apartments and a great variety in between. Many residences have pools but there are golden beaches within a short distance of the main strip and many have tavernas and bars. The main strip has many places to eat and drink and prices are very reasonable. Crete has a great cultural heritage and there are plenty of trips which can be taken. Breakfast was wonderful a good selection of hot and cold options. The breakfast staff and reception team were warm smd welcoming. The poolside bar service for both drinks and food was a slow. The pool roof terrace was beautiful overlooking the sea. We loved the beach bar directly in front of the hotel for lunch. Great service here and family run. Its not part of the hotel but it certainly added to our stay. Rooms kept clean. I would say the pool towels were rather small but we had our own so not a big issue.
