Not much happening in Karterados and Fira is bloody...
Not much happening in Karterados and Fira is bloody expensive. I would however recommend moving on to other nicer islands such as Milos, Ios, Naxos and particularly Paros. Only thing I'd change is renting an ATV/scooter/car right from the get-go. Buses in Santorini are not that reliable and do not seem to go according to the schedule printed in the main station (only the airport one departed as scheduled from what I could see). That being said, it's not a terribly long walk, but after a full day walking and sweating under the sun, who wants to wait for a bus or walk for 30 minutes? This was our second time staying in the village.
This was our second time staying in the village. Very convenient for getting around not too far to walk to Fira. We don’t like crows so prefer to stay outside of the main tourist areas this is just far enough away from the capital. Karterados is not as touristy or expensive as Fira and Oia.
Karterados is not as touristy or expensive as Fira and Oia. It is nice to mix with the locals. However you can walk to Fira with a view of the Caldera in 10-20 mins. It was very lovely, with extremely friendly staff. The gentleman that welcomed us went above and beyond with his guidance and was very lovely. Breakfast was generous. The hotel is only 15 minutes walking from Fira, and gives comfort of staying outside of the nose. The bus stop is 2 minutes away.
