This was by far our favourite stay during our winter break. Sadly it was for one night only but it was most definitely 'the full monty'! Great location and stunning views of the lake from most of the tastfully furnished public rooms. The staff are superb, perfect mix of professionalism matched with a warm, genuine personal service. Welcome glass of bubbles and a brief tour of the reception hall and lounge areas was a lovely touch before being shown to our room. There were real fires in most of the lounges which added a lovely, homely feeling. Our Room had everything you could wish for with quality fittings, great amenities and a super comfy bed. Dinner in the main restaurant was enjoyable with friendly, efficient staff. Steak had to be re cooked as came out very undercooked but this was rectified without any issue and service recovery was excellent. Dessert was on the house! Breakfast next morning was also very good although they did run out of some danish pastries and we were not the last guests to be seated.

The property was beautiful in a reserved old building style. The breakfast room/dining room was gorgeous and the furnishings were stunning. Staff were lovely. It was just a few hundred metres to the Windermere strip shops, had private off road parking and the £3pp each way bus to Bowness where the lake cruises leave from was only a couple of hundred metres away. Breakfast was great and the staff very helpful with the luggage.

The location was super central - close to lots of restaurants in Windermere. We chose to use the open-top hop on/hop off bus service to visit Grasmere, Ambleside & Bowness as the bus stop is close by. The breakfast was big & delicious and the service was super. Thanks for a lovely holiday :)

    A lovely place to visit.

A lovely place to visit. Lots of good local shops, cafes and restaurants that were nearby. Buses 599 open top available to get to other places and train station with good connections if you don't want to drive. We enjoyed visiting Ambleside, Bowness, Coniston and Grasmere. We took a boat out on Windermere from Low Woods, the car ferry to Hawkeshead and the boat trip on Lake Coniston. A walk down to the lake directly from Windermere via Birthwaite Road leads you to two small jetties where people were swimming, paddle boarding and people watching. In Windermere, Home Ground Cafe is a great place for breakfast but be prepared to queue. Tillys bar did a good fish and chips. Cafe Italia for pizza etc.

I don’t think what I review in words would be enough to sum up Windermere and the Lake District it is the most beautifuly breathtaking place you could see , with its stunning views of the lake taking a boat trip to many other parts of the district , the walking up many fells it’s a hikers paradise , it has plenty of local transport that runs every day to get you around or you can use the ferry ,, plenty of places to eat and drink lots of local shops and businesses offering beautiful things to buy , our favourite place the aira force waterfall , you must take the bus the journey will be one of the most beautiful things you have ever seen , find the trails and walk them if you can especially the one from from grassmere to Ambleside it’s about 5 miles around the lake with a diffrent landscape every 10 minutes , good walking shoes a packed lunch and drink and of you go

Luxury Grand Hotel with a full historical background with an excellent value for money for this 4 Stars Hotel and Spa Resort owned by an English family for the last 70 years. Gymasium, swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room are included in the price. Free mooring for the boat belongs to any of the hotel guests. The hotel also runs the Low Wood Bay Water Sports Centre with a private beach on the shore of the lake. Beautiful senary. Ample car parking. Two excellent fine dining restaurants. The breakfast was incredible, every day we had something different and each time it was brilliant. Also the location is perfect it’s so near to so many walks some of which are a short drive and some you can walk by starting at the hotel! It’s also only a 10 minute walk from both Windermere and Bowness on Windermere’s centres. Would recommend to everyone!
